Too much lift from Toytec kit

I just got around to starting a laundry list of upgrades to my truck and I neglected to take pre measurements. After installing the front suspension(coil overs ucas .25 shim for lean diff drop) and a steel bumper with a warne 12k winch I’m setting at 26.5in on each side. The angles seem too drastic for what should be a 3.5in lift at max. I haven’t adjusted coil overs yet as I’m waiting to do rear. In hindsight i torqued cam bolts back from loosening them without it on the ground. Would that be my issue possibly?

 

Your issue should be resolved once you adjust those coil overs. Lots of room left to go lower(at least an inch it looks like).

 

for reference I did an exactly 2 inch lift in the front with eibach coilovers and my cv angles look totally fine, I measured about a 5 degree increase versus stock height of 1 or 2 degrees. You can prolly go to about 2.5 with the diff drop and still have the boot ribs not touch each other.

I have an SR5 4x4 and I measured the stock height from center of the wheel to the fender well top and it was 21.5 in the front and 24 inch in the rear. That was with brand new non sagging suspension. Now I am at 23.5 in the front and 26.5 in the rear.

If you are at 26.5 in the front then you got 5 inches of lift assuming you didnt have stock sagging suspension in the first place.

 

Are those the 2.5 Alumas? Thats the exact same setup I have. If I recall, the instructions say that you should not see more than 1" worth of threads above the adjustment collar. I have mine set at about 1" of threads and everything is fine.

All that said, I dont think I understand your question. What do you mean 26.5"?

No sag, truck is newer. I was almost certain I was at 22.5 when I measured a few months back. 2021 sr5, but still wouldn’t expect that lift with that much weight on the front end. I just want to dial it in to 3 to match rear icon rtx springs.

Mine is at 25" hub to fender. I will say that when I first installed the Alumas and lowered the truck back on the ground, I was sitting super tall. Took a 15 min drive and the front end settled almost 1.5". Have you already driven it? Could be your same issue.

 

I didnt get any settling at all with my Eibachs. I have an ironman front bumper and a 12k winch as well. I even jumped up and down on the front bumper to take out any spring set but it didnt budge even a mm.

 

I'm not saying mine settled. Just when I dropped it down off the jack for the first time, the truck wasn't sitting at ride height. Mine had to move and drop into position. If that makes sense...torquing the LCAs off the ground could be his issue too.

 

Drive it. Just moving it from the spot you lowered the jack by 10ft will settle the front.

 

Also, the .25 shim was not needed for lean. You have adjustable coilovers.

I opted to keep preload the same and go with the shim.

 

I haven’t yet. I still have the rear to work on. I expected some settling but felt awfully stiff. I’m going to dial them in once rear springs and bumper are on.

 

Yes the cam adjustment bolts should be loosened and tightened while on the ground, otherwise the bushings may become compromised and that is not a good thing. Don't forget the alignment needs a major adjustment as well after the lift.

 

Thanks for the info. Ive got to get it straight to the alignment shop for tire install and alignment. It hasnt moved, so I dont think itll have much stress on them at the moment, but Ill retorque them on ground and go from there. Normally I would have done that but didnt think anything of it since these UCA state you can torque them raised.

 

do the retorque before your alignment, can't tighten the bolts in the air, truck weight must be on the suspension/ground. This could certainly be a factor in your ride height and I am guessing, hard ride.

Question, what are the UCAs that you are using and did you paint those yourself or they came from factory like that? I only ask because it looks like it a textured paint similar to a bed liner or maybe its because they are dirty at the moment or I'm blind. lol

 

Those are the SPC's and they come powdercoated.

Thanks. When I came back to work on it I retorqued the cam bolts on the ground and drove it for 20 mins and it settled at 25.5 right where I wanted it. Rides pretty good, but I may unhook the sway bar links and see what it’s like without that. Will post some pics up once the rest of lights are wired and I get katzkins installed.

 

I ride with no sway bar and love it. But I off-road frequently. Just get used to the lean and drive accordingly. It’s not too bad imo. My FJ on the other hand was sketchy on the street without sway bar but a beast off road. Let hear how you like it without the front connected.

Agree about the shim. It’s not needed and preload on one side for that height difference wont make any difference. Factory pro suspension come with a slight preload on drivers with no issues. So if Toyota does it then it’s really not an issue.

 

you have the diff drop installed or no? I'm about to bump my lift to get me to 25.5" as well, but took off my diff drop awhile back, do you know what your CV angles are? I think mine were at like ~10 degrees the last time I checked, which honestly seems like a lot to me

 

yeah, y'all are both right, but hes already got the shim in now so it really doesn't change much, it is only .25-.5" thick anyways. just a different way of doing it
