Don't get too, excited there. I still have a truck and an ICE. I respect the performance numbers on EVs, but I still think they are the soulless terminators that will end the auto enthusiast culture that we all love.

Well, technically the Taco is an ICE. I still have a Highlander :anonymous:
We’re going to trade in the Highlander in the next year or so for a truck. I think you need one of each.
On a related note, we have no choice as ICE will continue to eliminate itself.

Yup. 12 hour nightshift brain not communicating the clearest, but yeah the Taco is ICE as it should be. Eff hybrids and EVs!

ICE isn't eliminating itself, it's being regulated out on a sham concept that it doesn't even impact to a large degree. People are just too stupid to see see it.

Ooo you spicy this morning! :D
While I mostly agree with you, I like hybrids and EV's. BUT, keep the mandates and politics out of the auto industry. Let the market determine if something succeeds or not! :annoyed:

I like hybrids (not plug in) if the price is right.

My issue with most hybrids is that the big fat expensive battery will fail. Not might. Not could. 100% will. That's a shorter lifespan than many ICE vehicles, and it's so expensive it can total an otherwise fully drivable well maintained vehicle. Even if it's earlier in the life and doesn't total it, the vehicle is disabled. It cannot start or run without that massive battery that acts as it's starter and so the perfectly good ICE in the hybrid is bricked as well.

I refuse to buy a hybrid or EV.

Got any data on the life of Prius batteries? Since they're Toyota and probably the hybrid that's been around the longest.

Quick Google is stating average is in the 100K mile range for hybrid batteries, with some seeing 150k-200k. Basically, once the vehicles value is so low and you're beyond any reasonable recourse beyond out of pocket replacement.

    More Google

    Screenshot_20221216-064341_Google.jpg

$2000 to $8000 to replace. That's in the range of a transmission rebuild/replacement. Would you view it as acceptable if you had to rebuild or replace a vehicle's transmission every 100K miles?

Looks like the Prius specially in on the lower end of the price range, between $2000 and $3000. I also read this.

Seems like no one is really compiling any hard data on this. I also think a few sources are confusing the lifespan with the warranty period, which is up to 8 years or 150k miles.

The one I quoted was pretty clear, or at least heavily implied, that it was lifespan based on customers reporting the replacement.

    She wants a Tacoma

I catch your drift, but politics or not it’s coming to an end.

I’m not concerned with the battery life. Hell, my warranty is until 120K or 2030 (whichever comes first) I’d be shocked if I kept it that long. (See attached warranty) Even Toyota does not have basic, or drive unit warranty as long as Tesla does. I’ve seen (online) with some Teslas over 500k. Here is an older article with some needing a battery replacement (warrantied- $0.00).
Here is another article “Tesla car batteries are believed to last 300,000-500,000 miles or around 21-36 years.”
Another factor to consider is our maintenance cost is $0.00. Just tires and windshield wiper fluid for the most part. Hell, due to regen our brakes are said to last over a 100k or the lifetime of the vehicle for some. Nobody’s tech can come anywhere near Tesla. It has the cool, quick, fun features. I woke up to 13* this morning. My vehicle was heated to 82* in just a couple of mins, all while in a closed garage.
I can keep going, but I won’t because I’m definitely a Tesla fanboy. Hell, I was a Toyota fanboy for 10 years and still love them.

    Agree, all valid points.
I'll beat the same drum though, let the market determine whether or not they succeed.

Just dipping into the climate change hysteria nonsense that's fueling the mad rush to destroy the ICE, mostly just to get another way to attack those that don't follow the herd, my grandparents were told we'd be under 10 feet of ice by the late 80s and then when that was exposed as a scam to make some people rich, they switched to warming and now to just climate change. No kidding, climate changes? You don't say. Proof it's a scam is the small number of news companies that run virtually all of the news outlets are constantly building billion dollar structures, buildings, headquarters, in areas they swore to us would be under water by the early 2000s. In the words of the POTUS, "c'mon man."

But to the subject at hand, nothing terribly wrong with offering electric cars I suppose, but it should be something phased in over decades, maybe longer, in order to get the tech right, and, oh I don't know, make it so you could actually charge the thing?? Love it in Commiefornia how you can't run your A/C or charge the few electric cars there are before 9pm but they want to increase the draw on the system by orders of magnitude by forcing everyone to go electric. Anyone with a 3rd grade education would know that dog ain't gonna hunt. I guess that's why so many politicians, think it will work and see no problem with cutting off the ability to create the electricity necessary to charge the electric cars. Morons.

Rant off. One positive note it led me to a Tundra and this site which I have truly come to enjoy, every day. I decided on a Tundra as I will NEVER purchase an electric anything to drive in so I bought it with the intention of driving it until one of us dies. I'm 53, it's a 2021 with 40,000 miles...

    Too much?

Haha. Not sure what color she’ll want. All I know is she got a taste for the heated steering wheel driving my car the other day, and now wants that….not sure what trim tacos those are on.

I just can't see battery electric being effective for heavy hauling or long distance mass transportation. This is where diesel-electric or hydrogen-electric hybrids would come in if we really insist on moving away from traditional gasoline and diesel ICEs.

Idk. The Tesla semi can go 500 miles on a single charge, fully loaded. Here’s a video of it pulling away, uphill, fully loaded passing another ICE semi

My biggest complaint about Tesla is that the front end of the Model 3 - especially in white - looks like a Ford that someone at the dealership forgot to finish taking the plastic off of.

Looked at the Model X for shits and giggles. They only want 3 times what the Pilot is going to cost us!:eek2:
