What camping setup do you have?

Is the L track screwed into the tailgate with self tappers or something?

 

I through bolted it against double sided sticky tape. It's permanent! I'll see about getting some closeup shots in the next day or two

 

nice set up where about in the Sierra ? I roam the area a handful times a year

It’s awesome! What thickness memory foam are you using and how thick are your draws, you have a lot of head room inside the cap it looks like

 

I believe the foam is either 2.5 or 3” it’s a king mattress topper that I just cut to fit . The platform sits right on top of the wheel wells . To maximize headroom The drawers are about 6” deep . When I am not camping it holds my work tools. I am 6’0 and can almost sit up completely

 

I sold the AT Habitat in June and picked up an OVRLND camper for the Tundra


Basic build-out, but the GF likes it, so thats a win.

 

How long have you had the SP? Thoughts on it?

 

Install was a 11/15/22. It has been great so far. Super fast deployment and the rivnuts and wire chases on the inside should make for a clean build out. Also being able to stand up on the inside has been a game changer. I was the second double cab to be installed and had my deposit paid in august of 2020. My price was locked in from 2020 at $8200, I don’t think I could justify it at the current pricing.

 

Its a good looking set-up for sure man. Standing room is an amazing upgrade from ground tents and regular camper shells.

something i'm sincerely wondering about, what is the reason for truck top tents? I've camped a ton, woods, adventuring, music festivals, even as a kid in the mountains.... I always do ground tent and air mattress when I can bring them. Currently have decked drawers in a 21 crewmax and smart cap and going to add wire in a remote gate release so I can lock myself in when I sleep in the bed. I'm 5-9 and at a slight angle I can even crash full length in the back seat of my Tundra.

 

I regularly do it in my DC, when it's too cold to sleep under cap. 3 nights in a row, no problem

Do you use your French press jet boil to boil water for your freeze dried meals or do you have a separate for just boiling water? Any cross taste happening when you just boil water?

 

I have never gotten any cross taste after using the press on my jetboil. Provided of course you make a slight attempt to clean it after coffee.

 

I'm old, soft, and over the whole tent, air mattress, unzip sleeping bag and tent to go pee multiple times an night thing.

I'm now in more of a heater, AC, flat screen, memory foam, ice cream in the desert kinda' phase.

I have two.... never really noticed and taste of coffee in the boiled water. I just like to make coffee at the same time as I get water ready for mountain house... one is a knock off

 

I like Lance, they make really sweet units, I think my biggest thing with tent is when it's wet, and being in Ontario, that means it's gonna rain during peak camping season, the irritation of set up everything again just to dry it only to find raccoons taking up residence gets old quick.

Like you, now there's no going back. AND, no more public washroom needed!

 

The Lance has been really good to us. We're just over 6 years in and I've had ZERO problems.

I put together a tool kit to keep in the trailer, 'cuz I know they're like rolling earthquakes bouncing down the road, so I was fully prepared to be fixing stuff... so far the tools have been 50 lbs of dead weight I haul around for nothing.

Our original plan was to buy a used tent trailer since wifey and I both had V6 (4Runner and Tacoma) but then I got the first Tundra ('00 4.7L) and I thought "Hey I can pull more weight now, it'd be nice not to have to mess with the tent part (for exactly the reasons you mentioned) so I made the very costly "I'll just go look" move and they sat me in my Lance.

I knew they had a reputation for quality and being our first RV I didn't want something that was gonna' fall apart in 2 years and give the wife a bad taste in her mouth for the whole RV thing.

Somehow I convinced her we should add a zero to our trailer spend, and we bought our third RV first!

The '00 4.7 performed very well for 6 years, but man oh man, the '19 with the 5.7 is a bright beautiful WORLD of difference!!

Our camping friends have a Winnie similar to yours and they're super happy with it. Very nice looking combo you have.

 

Well. I went off the deep end and upgraded again. Snagged a close out ‘22 Ember 199MBH, by far the smoothest towing single axle I’ve ever pulled. Getting everything swapped over from the Hike now. The extra space and the trailing arm suspension were just too much to resist lol.

 

Our camping setup - although it's my wife who calls it "camping," I call it the mobile hotel suite.

I have a Softopper on the way to build a proper truck camping setup in the bed. I used to have a Tacoma with a full camping setup under a shell.

 

Tan the smittybilt over lander for awhile 699$ great tent worked well for me prices have gone up tho. No I just sleep in the bed under my canopy.

 

I'm really impressed with those Embers - I think if I were to get another travel trailer, it would be an Ember Overland. The all-composite construction is a huge draw.

I like the model with the modular rear area that can covert from bunks to a desk or open storage with the E-track.
