Comes with the title. The difference for me is my right to refuse non-fire/small-fire situations on PTO, versus everyone having the expectation that I'll show up for anyone who whines when not on PTO. Every day is a work day, though; PTO or no.

You have to take the "Down Time" or you fizzle out ;)

Con just had two weeks approved yesterday and we will finally have much needed "re-coup" time to ourselves..

We can start 2023 with Fresh eyes

Enjoy Florida and if your traveling towards "The Man" get ready for intense traffic along the I-75 route :hattip:

If I refuse to answer any email, call, or text that’s going to hurt them and I won’t do that to them or my great clients. I have a reputation too :smokertransformer:

Fortunately, my mom loves sushi so I’m sure I’ll get a sushi date in with her. Sushi will be so much fresher compared to CO (duh)

Our situations sound a little different. The problems I deal with are about 10% client and 90% internal (mostly our sellers being idiots). My teams are technical consulting and client success; and to a man (and woman), both are great with clients. But sometimes a seller over-promises, a vendor problem arises, or some other roadblock gets in the way of a good client experience, so that's when my folks might need help.

A small-fire problem example would be a seller wanting one of my consultants to do work on a client's production environment for free, or wanting one of my client success folks to do stuff that belongs to the operations team (the operations team actually has the gall to ask us to do their job sometimes...). Easy answers, since the 'no' is already in writing. A big fire would be if a client wasn't getting help from the teams that were supposed to help, and someone needed to call their manager (we respect chain of command, so if a manager needs to be called, I'm the one who calls).

Obviously it's a cush gig, thus my ability to browse Tundras.com during the day. That, the great folks I work with, and the decent pay make it an easy decision to work when on PTO. I'm glad to be me. I gather from your previous posts yours might be a bit cush as well, even if it carries more travel and constant attention than mine.

Ah slightly different, but I manage CO, UT, NV, and our National Accounts division. Fortunately, in each of those SW states, I have hired strong leaders that are pretty good with problem solving. The external part can be from sub-contractor, pissy client, or a major incident happening requiring me to jump in and put out the fire; or at least maintain the flames until I can deep dive into it.
I honestly do mind though. I’ve been working since I was able to have a workers permit at the age of 16. I work a lot, but there are other times I have it easy and can let off the gas for a bit. The managers I have in place have a strong work ethic. I respect their time off, but I am flexible. As an example, my manager in NV is on a cruise for a week. Instead of requiring him to take PTO- I give him an option of submitting some of it, all of it, or none of it. If he chooses to not submit any PTO I am not going to log in, and manually do it for him as I have seen a few emails from him so I know he’s checking in periodically.

Just woke up a out an hour ago. Been trying to go back to sleep as tonight is the first night shift, but no luck. :sadviolin:

I love that I can pop in here in the mornings and catch up a bit on days like this. Sounds like most of us have positions we either really enjoy, get paid enough to put up with the minimal BS, or a combo of both. :fistbump:

@T-Rex266 , don't let @ToyoMafia co-opt you into any Florida Man crazy shenanigans! And we obviously expect pics of the sushi and other delicacies.:hungry:

Same. Most telecom companies are on network freezes from mid November through the new year. Generally less stuff breaks due to stupidity, but it's offset by weather related problems. Still preferable to I-D-10-T errors.

Damn. That's a lot of sashimi! I'm overdue for sushi, but winter storms and stupid colds/flush, and stupid work are keeping me homebound for the foreseeable future.. :(

I don't really go to nicer places often - the wife doesn't like sushi. Was glad to have a reason to go today; but I'm embarassed to say that if I get to jonesing too much, I'll lower myself to grocery store sushi to get a fix.

    Get well.

If you go to an all you eat sushi spot, I usually eat a lot of the sashimi as it wont be as filling as a roll, obviously.

We had a good buffet down the street from my office prior to the plague. A real buffet, not a conveyor belt - the stations were manned, but they were all self serve. IIRC you could get out of there for under $40 a head and still need to unbutton your pants when you're done. Like lots of places, it had to close.
