Sounds like a good question for the turbo kit company in the other thread. A straight up question of, is it still safe to tow 10k lbs with this turbo setup? Towing is one scenario I’d take the SC any day over the big single turbo. The off the line grunt with the supercharger is perfect for getting a heavy trailer moving. Like I mentioned once before from a standstill it will straight up spin (by accident) the 12.50 tires on dry ground with 1,000 lb tongue weight, a bed cap, and a loaded bed. The towing improvement is probably my favorite part of having the SC.

Agree. I think SC is where it's at for towing. The other turbo technologies (Twin Scroll and Variable Geometry) don't seem to be there for a nonOEM application.

I would also want to know if the banks heat up evenly or not long term. The piping from the manifold looks like one bank will have a shorter path to the outlet that feeds the turbo, may not be pronounced enough to make a difference like in the video. Looking at other collector designs I am curious to see the inside of the "Y" too, looks shallow where the streams could interfere with each other. Not a fluid guy so what the frack do I know.

RE: The second half of the question I think it is tough to beat a blower on the little end of low RPMs.

What I am finding is turbos are usually good for a specific RPM band outside of which they get very inefficient (they heat up the air too much). The Twin Scrolls and Variable Geometry turbos are supposed to be better across a wider range than a traditional turbo; too many problems or too complicated dialing them in from what I am reading.

The other option is compounding where a big turbo feeds a small turbo; looks like the key is to keep the small turbo in its most efficient island. This gives a broader response; small handles the lower RPM end, big provides enough air to feed the small turbo on the big RPM end where a single small would choke. Problem is air gets really hot compounding (like 400 degrees) so you need intercooling to deal with the heat otherwise you loose the benefits of all the boost you make. Given limited space placing a properly sized intercooler is usually the big challenge after you've figured out all your turbo piping.

Found something interesting about another supercharger that reads IAT temps post intercooling. Looks like there is an issue with the temp sensor getting heat soaked because of its position. It wasn't a Harrop but the aftermarket responded with a spacer (riser) kit.

[UPDATE] I found the intake I needed through a local forum member. Thanks @ssmokedz !

    [Original]
Any of you still have your OE intake manifold laying around?

My engine died at 205k miles so I'm swapping it with a low-mileage used engine from an auto recycler ($6k). The workers broke the intake manifold pulling the engine out of the truck.

My original inatke is full of oil and metal from the demolished valve and piston.
    20221130_213423.jpg
I'm not confident that I can get all of the metal particles out of the original intake and I can't inspect it thoroughly enough even with a digital bore scope.

If you still have your original 5.7 intake would you be willing to part with it? I'm in Central Massachusetts btw.

    Naturally aspirated. Stock engine.

One of the valve springs broke, dropped the valve into the cylinder, broke the piston and then the rod knocked 4 holes in the block.

I need an intake manifold which isn't used after installing a supercharger so this seems to be the best audience for locating one.

12psi is considered average here. I have been to 21psi.
I have not removed the coolers but I anticipate rear side at corners.
Putting TRD SC today with bigger crank pulley. Aiming for 12-14 psi.

I'm trying not to appear rude or ungrateful, but the used engine only has a 30 day warranty so I have to find something and get it installed ASAP in case the replacement engine is bad.

If I don't get it running before 30 days and it turns out that it's bad I'll have no option, but to buy a second used engine for $6,700.

@reywcms that would be great, except I don't have a useable core and one of my cylinder heads is damaged as well.

I still have my intake off my 2014 5.7 motor. Yours for the shipping cost. I will have to find a box big enough for it. I will dig it out tonight if you want it.

Uhhh, I spoke too soon. At WOT on the Dyno, cylinder one injector isn't working correctly and throwing a misfire. I'll have to pull it out and see what's going one. On the plus side, it made 450whp on 7 cylinders, lol.

I have the Five-O injectors coming in a few days. Will put up some comparison pic. They ended up being the exact same price as pro speed's, because five-o has a 10% off banner for joining their mailing list.
