I’m searching if anyone currently has aftermarket parts and accessories covered on their auto policy. If so what’s the dollar amount covered and what category they consider the additional coverage.

Long story short, I have Geico and they were willing to cover wheels, tires, suspension, snow plow. All with an increased premium that I was fine with paying. Earlier this year, I added a supercharger and selected increased coverage on their online pull down menus for engine mods- supercharger. This action triggered a refund a week later for the increased premium and they dropped me (they call it refuse to renew).

Any help and recent experiences anyone can send my way would be helpful.

Never heard of any such Auto coverage dealing with numerous carriers daily 15yrs. MAYBE on a classic/collectors. Unless it's available in other states and not PA? I've only ever seen it offered on motorcycle, atv/utv boat and snowmobile policys. (Most of them automatically include up to $3K in accessory coverage) if you reach that threshold you can increase in thousand-dollar increments.

I'm curious if you were paying for such at the time off loss, are you compensated the value you paid on the parts at your time of purchase or what the company values them at the time of loss??

Im looking to add on at least $15k in coverage if possible.

I’m not actually sure what I was being covered, value paid vs prorated.

Actually State Farm here said "no". I've been trying to figure out a solution for a while and inquired with my agent about a year or so ago. He did say that the company was looking into something like that, but as of then no. With over 25k currently in mods and probably another 25k on the way, I would like to find some insurance. So, a few minutes ago I was reading a Car and Driver article on the subject and it turns out that one should google modified car insurance. Hagerty is the number one provider, and if I understand correctly they basically have an appraiser and the vehicle owner agree on a vehicle value. For me, that sounds mostly reasonable. Not sure what the premiums will be, but I intend to request a quote at some point.

Good info. Please report back if you do the Hagerty quote. Myself and my brother are interested, he has a JDM 3 rotor turbo FD RX-7.

my insurance (Liberty Mutual) has "customization clauses" that cover anything that is not bolted onto an oem location (think amplifiers, bed cover....i think aftermarket running boards were under customization). you need to provide reciepts for everything prior to coverage.
