I did watch a video from last month at SEMA and they are coming out with their "Gen 3" models. I don't recall those having soft close either, but I could be wrong. They did change where you can now release/open the drawer from any part of it where the older ones I believe have the release on the right side only?

This gen came out right after I bought the first box, same shit but new colors mostly. Yup, mine have the flippers on the right but easy to get to. Only a couple times ive cussed it out when my hands were full. The milwaukees you can just yard on anywhere and they open up, theyre nice.

I made this workbench several years ago with some toolboxes as part of it. I modeled it in Solidworks and then made it. Should last me a lifetime.

I've heard great things about US Gen. I almost went that route with mine but the butcher block top they had available for pickup was too large for where I wanted to fit mine. I went with a husky I think (or Kobalt) and it's also great. If what you're hearing is that US Gen is slightly better than the husky or kobalt line then you won't be disappointed. Mine suits just fine for my somewhat limited usages.

Just ordered the 72” General along with the 56” top box. Going to be several weeks before delivery.

Rumors are that they are upgrading the General boxes to be more like the Icon. Price rumored to go up substantially too.

Here is the link to the youtube video I referenced earlier showing the US General "Series 3" boxes from last month at SEMA.

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwijvsGSueX7AhW_DkQIHZBLDZQQtwJ6BAgJEAI&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZIbKwWUyJ0&usg=AOvVaw1WpQt5DW39I0xUkHf9vMwl

Are you saying that Harbor Freight generally doesn't carry the boxes in stock and they have to be ordered or did you just place an order to get the specific color you wanted if that one was not in stock?

Usually don’t have 72’s in stock… the 72 is a beast to get off the crate/box.

Shows them in stock at a few stores up this way, but theres also no people up here so supply/demand bs probably.

The 52 was a bitch to unload, couldnt imagine the 72. Had to use the tractor and some precarious rigging.
(Ignore the shitbox chevy, its my involuntary work truck when im on call)

Hahaha, my wife and I unloaded mine with a cherry picker.

I've had mine for a few years and the quality is definitely higher than the box stores boxes. I have no complaints with mine, just wish I'd gotten it sooner. After a year or so with 56 inch, bought a 26" top chest. It was damaged when I got it unboxed and they replaced without any hassle.

Also for socket organization, instead of buying them. I just threw a few screws in some wood and burned the sizes in.

Online inventory of 5 stores within reasonable driving distance show only one store with a 72” cabinet, they had only red. Didn’t check the 56” top box but my closest store had none of any color.

Thanks for the SEMA link, the gray color with black trim appeals to me. The hutch looks cool but I prefer without.
    Options are great though.

Did the Same thing with the tractor… if the toolbox wasn’t so pretty it wouldn’t have been so sketchy unloading… just worried to death about scratching it up before it had tools in it!

No tractor here, but planned on using my 5x10 utility trailer with tilt bed for hauling it. I guess I'll start looking online at stores to see what is actually in stock and maybe have to postpone my project if it needs to be ordered.

However you choose to do it, just do it … it’s worth it! Got mine just before all the COVID price increases.I believe I paid $999 for the 72 inch. I have the 5 drawer cart also.

Unloading firewood, that method works great. I'm sure a toolbox would go just as well. :)

That's what I do for a welding cart too, 4 drawer though. Welding carts are expensive and use really crappy hardware. At least that's the impression I got when shopping. The mechanics cart, with a couple mods, seemed a much cheaper/better solution.

Yea, I agree. I looked at the 4 drawer but went with the bigger one just to have more storage space. I added the shelf for the gas bottle and a foldout workbench and it's been awesome. Very sturdy even with all that weight on it.

Same place I hang my grinders, very similar cylinder shelf. The green cover is actually for my spare tires in the bed of the truck. I don't like the color so I use it to cover the welder.
