GEN 3 (2022+) Wheels and Tires Photo thread

I'm setting up my 2023 Limited for towing my 18. x 7.5 tandem trailer that will probaby be 5-6K lbs when I'm done building it. As much as I enjoy the plush ride of the Geolandar X-CVs, they need to go.

With 20" rims, which would you go with? This truck is our daily driver, and we'll be towing the trailer for about 5000 miles per trip x 4 times a year.

Well due to the stupid lead time on +15 TE37xt's I went ahead and did a deal on 4 of the VR Forged D07 that were in stock in a 18" x 9" +12mm black. 2lbs heavier
each than a TE37xt and no 8 month lead time. And about half the price.

A lot of variance in different types of tires here, I love the falkens on my current Tundra. Had a crazy snow storm last night and they kicked some serious a**!
Now being in the service world for years if I’m going for overall best “ranked” tire it would be the ltx’s, the drawback is they are old man looking but man do they roll nice and lasts forever

 

I personally like the 18” on the Canadian SR5 off-road but I added these TRD center caps to tie in with the other TRD logos on the truck, quite happy with the results. I needed to flatten the dust covers on the front wheels to make them fit. Relatively cheap addition and I like the looks a lot more than the stock silver caps.

 

love the te37’s but they are just too expensive. I found Blackhorn bh01’s which everyone loves on the taco/ 4Runner forums and am very happy with them. Super cheap, $700 shipped for the set and they weight 21 lbs each in a 17

 

Nice, I like the looks of that. What caps did you buy and what did you have to do to make them fit? Do you have a part number for them?

 

I have owned three sets of LTX MS on Gen 1 Sequoia, one set LTX MS on King Ranch and one set of K02s on King Ranch. I tow a 6000lb boat and just put 275/60/20 Pirelli
Scorpions AT+ on my 22 Tundra because wanted to try an AT tire. All three tires are very stable when towing and provide excellent control in emergency stopping and snow. (Haven’t had Pirellis in snow yet. I live in lake effect snow belt near Lake Michigan).

LTX are much quieter if that is your focus and better on wet roads than the K02s. Balanced them once when installed new and they ran true for 70-80000. Rotated every 3000. They have a very planted feel when towing. In 275/60/20 size they are higher load range than the ones I owned 265/60/18 so I didn't want to risk harsh ride.

K02s were better in deep snow but gave up some ride and could hear them at highway speeds. Ran true and lasted 60000. Good tire and more aggressive look.

Pirellis only have 1000 on them and have 50000 mile rating. They are all terrain design so a little hard or not fair to compare to LTX. You will definitely hear them so LTX would be my pick if you will spend a lot of time on the highway and want lowest possible noise experience. I tried Pirellis because they had lowest SL load rating of all the AT tires I considered and the set cost $950. They look great, handle great and ride good for an AT tire. I go off road once in a while but nothing crazy. I expect they will make a little more noise as they wear. I have towed my boat twice with them and they were very stable and felt planted with boat in tow.

All three are good tires just depends on what is important to you. Good luck with your search.

 

the backs were a simple swap, wouldn’t have even needed to take the rim off. The front axel has a “dust cap” that wouldn’t let the TRD caps seat all the way into the rim. I took the tire off, pulled the dust cap off, laid it flat against my concrete floor and hammered the protruding, round button part down. You can see the stock Toyota caps are convex and the TRD are concave, you just need a little extra room for them to push all the way into the rim and click in.

I'm looking for your opinions on the Hercules Terra Trac AT X-Adventure, and the AT X-Journey.

 

Anyone running 20" rims 20x9 with Zero Offset? Looking at Toyo LT295/60/R20 tires. I know these will be tight until I lift the truck but I was more curious about how much poke this setup creates. Fender flares might be needed!

If anyone with similar setup has pics showing the poke, that would be great to see. Thanks.

 

that's going to poke a lot, but im a flush guy so its subjective.

I think with 0 offset you may rub also with that much tire

 

That was my thought as well. I really like the look and structure of these wheels. But they only come in "0" offset.

I am going to see if I can find something with about +20 but the search has been a tedious one so far.

has anyone found center caps that fit the platinum wheels that arent chrome?

Im now leaning towards keeping the platinum wheels and using black lugs and replace the center cap, the chrome is a non-starter

The stock tires are 38lbs, if anyone needs that. going to be hard to get a bigger tire and stay close to that. The Cooper AT3 4S comes in a p rated 33" 275/60/20 and weighs 45 which isnt terrible increase

 

How much do the stock wheels weight? You could drop some weight I bet there. I only gained 11lbs a corner going to 35’s, but that was with a 21.5lbs wheel and lighter 35’s (still E rated)

I have thought about that but I can't find that info anywhere, stock platinum wheel weight .

 

I saw it somewhere once, they arent light. The 20in forged black TRD wheels my truck came with weight 36lbs

also any other center caps that fit that wheel.

but ya, if I can get that weight , I could go with a lighter 18" wheel and then maybe one of the heavier tires and be ok.

 

Hi Norman, thanks for the pointer. It looks like the answer to my question is too much poke for my plans. Even at +18 there will be some poke.

I like flush or as close to it as possible. I was hoping the the HRE wheels with "0" offset wouldn't have too much poke but I can see in some pics about 2 to 3" of poke. I guess the +18's out there will get that closer to an inch. I can always get the TRD Pro flairs to take up that.

 

Uberoval, did you get your wheels yet? I am curious to see what they look like and how much they stick out. I like the flow formed wheels for strength.

 

Picked up the wheels yesterday and was planning on heading to Discount for tires but work got in the way.....

18"x9". +12mm offset. Most likely Toyo ATIII in a 35 x11.5" or no more that 12" wide.

I'll weigh this sucker soon as I get home.

 

Those are amazing wheels! Curious to see how much they stick out. I went to VR's site but couldn't seem to get the info I was looking for. I think the listed offset was "0" for these but could be wrong. I might just need to call them and talk to some one who can help navigate their stock.

I have also been looking at going to a 20" wheel as there are more options for available tires, at least in my area.

 

I was looking at these as well. More towards a "car" looking wheel but stil looks good on a truck. There is no question that the flowformed wheels are going to be stronger than cast wheels at least strength to weight ratio would better. These are made in Japan and have some good reviews overall.
