I recently took off my airbag and steering wheel to swap out headlight switch. After putting it back together torquing the wheel nut to 40 ftlbs and hooking the airbag up. Reconnected the battery and started the truck . Airbag light came on . How do I get rid of the airbag light ? Was there a step that I missed when putting the airbag back on ? Any help appreciated. 2007 doublecab

It's possible that the SRS computer realized that something was disconnected and just needs to be reset. If I remember correctly they recommend disconnecting the battery first before messing with anything to do with the SRS.

The yellow connectors are for the air bag. Are you sure you got all of them connected correctly (shouldn't be very many)? On older models there was a way of jumpering out two pins on the OBD connector. Not sure if that's still possible as now it's reset with TechStream. You may need to go to your local Toyota dealership. It's possible that an auto parts store can reset it but usually their scan tool isn't as powerful as the software Toyota uses. I suspect that if there's an issue, say you didn't get a connector snapped together correctly they either will not be able to reset it or they will charge you to check the connector.

Yes I disconnected the battery for left it for a few minutes then connected positive lead to the negative just to be safe . There are two connectors I unplugged on the airbag one is a orange and other a black . They are color coded so it isnt mixed up . At first I thought maybe I hooked it up wrong but no . Thank you for the reply. I'm hoping I dont have to go to the dealer .

If you're handy with a laptop you can download the TechStream software and do it yourself.

I personally like it because you can do things like check all the computers for fault codes, program keys and remotes, and troubleshoot problems. I bought a couple blank keys off of Amazon for cheap and had the local hardware store cut them. They did it for free since it was my blank and I was buying other stuff. With TechStream I programmed them to the truck for probably less than $10. Maybe the dealership would do it for free but it depends on your relationship with them. I would guess that they may want to sell you the bank.

Did you ever find out what the issue was. I just swapped my steering wheel out and I have the same issue?

Airbag light comes on anytime it senses a bad connection/problem. The issue is that once trigged it’s very hard to clear.

You will need Techstream or a high end scan tool. Unhooking the battery alone will clean engine trouble codes but not airbag codes.

Thanks for the response. I thought I would have avoided it since the battery was disconnected when I did the swap. I guess I need to find someone to clear it.
