Didn't even get past Step 1 of the 12volt.solutions install - the directions show removing the bottom half of the steering column shroud on a 4R or Tundra that doesn't have a power telescoping steering wheel like my 21 Platinum does. There must be a trick to removing the control unit in order to drop that shroud that I'm not aware of.

Searches on Google and this site came up with nada. Any pointers would be appreciated!

I believe this is similarly addressed by an install I watched for AccessoRides remote start (same hardware and great service, lower prices)

Thanks a bunch for the info. I haven't been through all the accessorides instructions/videos yet but did go through the video quickly. Didn't see him removing the piece on the lower part of the steering column...

If I didn't explain it very well above, this is the lower half of the shroud that goes around the steering column that has the telescope controls in it that I need to remove:

I can't seem to find the video I'm looking for, but it really didn't seem to be any different except the little control module for the power telescoping feature was on the left side and needed working around.

The video I watched indicated that he removed the right side of the column first and then worked the left side off, if I'm remembering it right. I'll keep looking

That's right - that's the part that I'm trying to figure out or get some insight on. Didn't know if the control switch was threaded and could be backed out so that the shroud could come down around it or something similar.

Experience has taught me not to assume things are threaded before applying torque...

Starts at 1:20 for when he does the removal. It just releases and slides over the control switch it sounds like. Wish they showed it, but looks like right-to-left is the way to go once the two screws are removed.

    Outstanding! Thanks much.

Not sure why 12vs didn't include this video in the instruction section they gave me access to with the kit. Mine is push button start but it already looks like this video is more accurate. Weird.

Well, now that I watched the vid you posted I know why they didn't include it for my PBS truck. TPMS connection is completely different.

Thanks again. Off to try and not break anything.

Good luck! Hopefully that's helpful. I do love tinkering but yeah, I cringe pretty hard when it comes time to do work on the fragile expensive bits without a good demo video, heh.

    Good news/bad news situation....

Got the shroud off the steering column after working around the telescoping steering wheel control button. Got the BCM hooked up. Tore the passenger side dash apart by removing the glove box to access the telematics unit for the last major plug in connection. Aaaaannnnd, the telematics box doesn't exist where the directions/video would show it - which is right next to the head unit...

I've got an email in to 12.volt Solutions but thought I'd ask here in the event somebody has already been through this exercise. Truck is already tore down and I'd hate to have to put it back together just to take it back apart.

Pic of the overall passenger side with glovebox removed:

Pic of the area tight to the center console/head unit where said telematics unit is supposed to live according to instructions:

Figured it out. The telematics box is on the right/passenger side of the blower behind the glove box. Got it all hooked up, programmed, tested, and passenger side put back together. Have to finish tidying up the driver's side tomorrow but that shouldn't be too hateful.

Here's a better view of the area behind the glove box. The telematics box is behind the pigtail that isn't connected to anything.

    pic 3.jpg

Tight shot of the telematics box. There are several small connectors and really only one large/long one that the system connects to.

None yet but making a list and looking at the budget.....
Would it not have been easier to get a viper alarm with remote start. Probably cheaper as well with all the time you have spent on this.
