I would think this repair should be fine. My only concern is the lack of support on the upper section of the frame. The lower angles you installed will help with most load stress, but I would have mirrored the repair on the upper half of the frame as well. With the thickness you installed, this may be enough.

That was my thought too. I can always add a piece of angle at the top if I feel the need. The part I took out was about 5lbs and I replaced it with like 30lbs. 3/8” don’t sound like much but it’s a thick piece

You didn't get that inspected in Maryland, did you?

Nope in New York. Would it not pass there?

You raise an interesting question. I was always told the frame cannot have any signs of patches or repairs or it will fail MD inspection. But I was able to find a MVA inspection checklist online and there is no section of the report that directs the inspector to review or P/F the frame. Perhaps it's an urban legend here in MD.

I've probably commented about these annual state inspections before, but here in highly regulated California, we have no vehicle inspections, thankfully. As long as you pay your money and have insurance you're good to go. I guess we pay for the privilege to drive whatever we want on the public roads. I guess it all evens out in the end.

Really? why I am always hearing about people not passing inspection in Cali? and why are their models made JUST for California, and New Jersey (apparently) just to pass your stricter inspections?

Exact opposite here in Commiechusetts, they now have video cameras to record inspections to make sure nobody is cheating.

We have bi-annual smog inspections (just a download of the cars computer to see if there are any stored error codes), for all cars and trucks from 1976 on. That's it for any kind of inspections, and if you buy a new car you can bypass those smog inspections, you guessed it, if you pay an additional fee, for the first 8 years from what I remember when I bought a new car in 2012. The smog inspections really cleaned up the air around Los Angeles compared to the 1970's, it's so much better now and I don't bitch about those, they made a huge difference with the air quality.

Ah, gotcha. So there are inspections. That must be what everyone complains about.
