I do kinda wish my AC had larger tail lights. It's the only thing that feels a little puny on my truck.

 

No twin turbo.

 

For a small NA 2dr, I had tons of fun driving one of my ex's.

 

Some of the remakes will never be as good as the originals to me. Not that I could ever afford one of them anyway but the new versions just don't have the same aura about them that the originals had.

Sure the new ones may be faster or whatever but the originals are just awesome.

 

Nice. I keep trying to figure out what I can put in my office as either a small wall cabinet or something free standing to house my router, Mac mini server, external HD, smart things hub and a switch

I've been doing it as part of my career for 10-15 years now, and it's been one of my side hustles outside of work for years, really kicked off when Ubiquiti started beefing up its offerings. They really make a compelling, no-brainer, incredibly robust product suite. We can survive with internet up and full wifi during power outages for a good 20 minutes, it's been incredible with WFH during C19.

Not sure where you want to stick it, your rack but if I were you, I'd consider get a 2U - 4U wall mount 19" rack with a single Pyle shelf. Startech makes (hands down) the best wall-mount 19" racks, 4U example. What really makes their stuff special is the focus they put on bracing the rack for stability, which is something Monoprice and others don't bother with. The Pyle shelf you'll want is PLRSTN 14U (remove the space in that product number - I only added it so scAmazon won't auto-link)

Good part about going 19" rack, if you can manage the depth, is your ability to upgrade later as you add equipment, and the wide availability of 19" compatible rack accessories for anything you can imagine. With a single rack, and the 1U Dream Machine Pro "SE" (special edition, which has a couple of POE ports), you can literally build an entire home network, use the POE ports to power a couple of WAPs, and you've got a firewall, access control, CCTV NVR, wireless controller all in one box, and essentially a small enterprise-level/SMB network using those WAPs with it.

My current setup has gotten to the point it's basically barfing all over itself, because I've added and added and added over the years, which is why I went with the expandable (12-20" deep) 12U Startech rack pictured to consolidate NAS, wireless controller, enterprise firewall, modem, etc.. I'm also upgrading to a new Ubiquiti 48port POE switch, ditching my old Ubiquiti 16-port.

This is a really cramped space, hard to take a pic. I'll tag you when I finish wiring out the rack. Gotta drop a new 20A circuit below the 12U rack before I can look to migrate everything over.

Oh - and you know the old saying, "Cobblers children have no shoes". What I just shared a pic of is not a "normal" buildout for me, it's just what I ended up with adding on little by little. Installs I do for money, I typically spend a lot more time and effort sprucing things up, cable management galore, way more color-coding on cat6 jumpers so I know what ports are VLAN tagged for what based on cable color, etc. I'll probably spent a lot more time when I transfer everything over to its new home.

 

Whoa. Info drop! Thanks man. I’m a little tech’y and used to build/fix/do installs for my dads PC shop way back when but I’m a Mac guy and really don’t use anything but a home networked drive for my movie/music libraries. I do need to figure out a NAS sometime in the future and was thinking Synology. The only downside is that it will be in the corner of my office near my whiskey wall so I kinda wanna hide it all in an upright whiskey barrel or something….would go where this lil bookshelf is currently so I don’t know if a rack, as easy and right for the job, would be my best fit

 

I kinda dig floor / free standing half height racks. Just right for parts. I left ours behind for the tenants b/c it was all dialed in for the network switch and I figured it'd be years before I get this new place wired.

Someday maybe I'll get something going in our mini closet/wine rack (currently a shoe rack b/c we don't drink much wine).

 

Synology is great. I've used their stuff at work and home, it's robust. But the minute I setup the QNAP pictured, I haven't looked back. I thought I loved Synology NAS products, but QNAP stole my heart. It just works, has tons of integration for MacOS, is BSD-based, tons of easy and robust app options if you're into virtualization, it's nuts how much you get in little packages with them.

I've got (4) used half-height spare center-post racks (pretty sure they're these Tripp-Lite, it's what I usually get) I don't need if you want one. Happy to break one down, box it up and ship to you. LMK.

Understandable, but it's with good reason.

 

It's almost like something is clogging, a bypass kicks in which relives the pressure, clog drops, bypass drops out to main path, clog rehappens, bypass kicks in to relive the clog. While it probably is electrical, is there any rubber fuel line that could be collapsing that has a bypass, or a fuel pickup that could be clogging that has a bypass path?

 

What benefits you long term?
1. gets it done & lets you move on with your life. You're gonna off-road it anyway, so....
2. Do you enjoy channeling your inner viking? Does stress & battle elevate you or drain you?
3. Middle ground. You'll probably win the war, but you end up behind on your life path.
Is being right more valuable to you than traveling your life path? Time is finite, will you look back & say 'that was well spent'?

 

You could package the return properly & have him use your superior packaging to send you the replacement.

Though this is true, in order to have money to spend I must exchange my time. Any money lost is time I've already spent and cannot recover. This is a simple contract: I give you money for a product that I can use. If you break that contract by altering the product or it's usability, then I'm not gonna be happy about it.

This is why I hate thieves and feel that punishment for theft should be severe, with only the theft of food for survival being an exception. If someone steals something you worked for, they are not just taking the item, but also stealing a part of your life that you gave up in exchange for that item. To get money I have to give up my time, a portion of my life, to go somewhere and do something that somebody else wants me to do. Theft of property equates to theft of that portion of life that we all give to our employers for our income.

I agree although from a slightly different angle.
I don't give up my time for money. I sell my time.
I don't do something somebody wants me to do - I sell my time to somebody who want's something done, something I'd enjoy doing, that they don't have the time to do themselves.

I try to avoid the thieves; posts here help us figure out who the good/bad players are.
But once I'm in it - I'm in it. So, I figure my way out of it with a lesson learned, but my path out is the one I choose, that I find most palatable. Sometimes it's my inner Viking slashing burning, leaving the floor covered in a river of blood. Sometimes I walk away chastising myself.

This case isn't really someone stealing IMO. This is a guy who isn't very good at his job, is apparently lazy, & is trying to push his work off on his customer. IME there's only 1 way to get a lazy person to do things the right way. I'm not sure the damage is worth the energy required to fix it. We've not seen that there is any functional reduction to the product. Some abrasion, a minor tweak, to an off-road product is likely annoyance only. Erik sends it back & Eric may as take a hammer to it, spray it black & send it back. 'Dunno, just doesn't seem worthy of waking the inner Viking.

 

Yeah, I wasn't meaning to imply that I conflate this with theft. Only that I wouldn't let it slide, and that is partially to his dismissive response to the issue. I had some parts from @Caliraisedled show up with some damage that had been done before it was packaged. I was not happy, but they owned it, and were not dismissive. Communication was good and they even gave some info on how they would prevent it from happening in the future. Very different than the "it's not that bad" response this guy is giving. Zero ownership taken, zero commitment to prevent future issues, and a weak attempt to dissuade complaint by implying that it'll be inconvenient for the customer. That's somebody being a shitty person, and that gets the Viking blood going.

 

Is the part unusable?
Are you concerned about the damage having any consequence other than aesthetically?

If it’s usable and safe I’d go ahead and use it, lesson learned to never purchase there again, and you’ve spread the word, they have now lost multiple potential customers.
Maybe send a final FU email to the guy and tell him as much; if you’re feeling more ambitious about it see if you can report his behaviour to a superior there and Toyota corporate (that was a dealer, right?).

I’ve been pissed about less and wasted too much time on some of it, it’s better to learn and move on (in my experience).

 

Ups won’t cover anything. I’d call Toyota corporate and bitch and see what happens. Clearly shit packaging job by them (Toyota doesn’t send arms in boxes) it’s fixable. But for the price

They're probably better packaged going from the distributor to the dealer than how they got sent to you.

Local dealerships are responsible for bagging and tagging their own parts, and/or it's done through a centralized local warehouse. They told me this after my Serra debacle, where Serra sent me a mudflap that had the incorrect tag on it. "That guy at Serra is full of crap, Toyota HQ didn't send him the part, in that bag, tagged with that sticker. Serra or whoever is packaging Serra's parts f'ed up. That guy just doesn't want to own up to it and pay to deal with the return on it."

 

Regarding thieves. Maybe we should use their sawzalls to remove an appendage or two from those who remove our cats

 

Done. Ground is not level, but neither is the front 2x6. Good enough for what it needs to do.

 

Just allow force up to an including lethal to be used to prevent theft. It's a known deterrent.

Ever hear of the sheriff who was dealing with a spree of convenience store robberies and solved it by randomly rotating deputies with shotguns through the stores with orders to shoot to kill? Over a 90% drop in robberies as a result.

 

Nice touch adding gutters. Has it been weird adjusting to a place that gets so much more rain? We're similar here with 60" of rain the last two years and 50" so far this year.
