They definitely don't do it here for that reason; I've seen more than a few trucks go full Dukes-n-Hazzard mode and just jump the sloped curbs @ the roundabouts.

The issue I have isn't the roundabouts themselves. It's the douchebags who don't understand/care that yield means that - it doesn't mean you get to daisy-chain 213 vehicles off the first guy who goes through. LOL

It also doesn't mean stop. Around here we only have a few, and people are learning, but there are still those idiots who stop even when there are no other vehicles on the circle.

I like the roundabouts but hate the drivers that don't know how to drive in one. The new diverging diamonds are pretty cool. Last year PA had two. One in Washington and the other in Ephrata. I went through them both on the same day. Just happened to need to take that route.

We got a diverging diamond where state hwy 181 crosses I-10 a couple of years ago. My wife STILL hates it. I don't care one way or the other. But the first year results were pretty impressive. Accidents overall dropped by over 80%.

That's actually why I like them; when they put them in the nearby town (Rolla, MO) accidents dropped like 78% the first year easily. There's the occasional fenderbender, of course, and then the VERY occasional "launch" from some drunk idiot at midnight, but other than that and people who have no clue how to...drive in a circle (lol), that's about it.

Talking of roundabouts, why is there not a national advertising campaign to teach people how to use them properly? It's not the users fault that they don't know how to use these new fangled 20th century inventions that are absolutely useless if people continue to use them in the same way they use a four way stop. It's bloody dangerous when a someone used to using them (correctly) blows through when most others are expecting you to stop and wait your 'turn' like on a four way stop.

Indicators/turn signals are the key to a smooth running, efficient, way of dispersing traffic without causing other users unnecessary aggro/heart failure.

This is a fairly good way to get started, lifted from the National Motoring Association:
"–When turning right (first exit), signal right as with a normal right turn.
–When going straight ahead, no signal upon entering, signal as you approach your exit.
–When turning left (last exit/three-quarters around), signal left upon entering, switch to right as you come to the exit."

I was taught to signal left until I pass the last exit before mine and then promptly signal right, applies to all except the first exit, for that one, as above, just signal right. It's easy and everyone knows whether you are exiting before them and can keep moving if so. By using a signal continuously from the moment you approach a roundabout to the moment you leave means that people know that you are using your turn signals, they don't have a clue if you do as above and don't signal going in for the second exit. Will they/won't they is what slows up the smooth action of a roundabout because no-one wants to get T-boned.

Once you've mastered that and driving on the wrong side of the road you'll be ready to try this bitch... :eek2:

You're assuming the idiots know how to work a 4 way stop in the first place. Can't tell you how many people don't know how to drive if there isn't a traffic light to tell them. Zero situational awareness and not even the good sense to look around.

That when the $40 hooker tells you that you're the best she ever had and you believe the fake V8 sound coming from your speakers I cry/laugh just a bit.

Man if this ain't the truth. The other day I was behind a guy who sat for literally 30 seconds with no one coming in the roundabout...then turned *LEFT*, stopped dead for about 15 seconds, then continue to drive ALL the way around the roundabout, as if it were a two-lane. (It wasn't. lol)

I can at least understand that as a roundabout isn't the norm, but a 4 way is the most common intersection in the country. Without a light they are lost.

And that number increases fivefold when a regular light junction is malfunctioning and the lights flash amber or red, or both on the same junction depending on direction of travel, come on people it's not rocket science.

Right now I'm a bit miffed and our new neighbors at the campground. We are in a site with parking for only one vehicle as are all the bayfront sites her. Couple pulled in and asked if he could use our parking spot so his wive could unload her vehicle. Sure. I did remind him that these sites were one vehicle per site and we were in this site because it allows easy wheelchair access to the truck. He said he understood that and was going to park his truck by the office while his wife uses their parking spot. Here it is 20 hours later and the new neighbors still have the tow vehicle connected to the trailer and his wife is parked in my spot.
These are new campers and I can see their attitude isn't going to go over well no matter where they go.

So what am I supposed to do? Amputate before I get in my truck? I'm not losing a foot just because you don't like me having it. :p

What about manual transmissions? Have to use two feet.

Depends on if there is a spot for them to get in. If I'm in the right lane with a mess of cars to my left that dipstick trying to get on better yield.
