So I ordered a 5.0 Coyote Lariat short bed CC truck in February, then found a 6.5 ft bed hybrid XLT with everything but leather in March and said f&$k it, might as well cancel as waits seemed long at the time and I wanted to do my summer road trips in a new truck. The wife gave me a hard time for being impatient and not waiting for what I ordered.

Got my deposit back but By some glitch I keep getting emails saying my ordered truck is not built yet. Or maybe it gets built and sits on the lot now.

After multiple rate hikes and what probably would’ve been a few thousand more miles to 120-130 and maybe finishing off the tires on my 09 Crewmax I just got another one saying no build yet. Wife is starting to admit I made a good move. Probably would’ve been at least a year and become a worse deal for me financially on multiple fronts

I see you're in Ontario, I was also told the same thing, by my Toyota dealer, because Ford has those 1-2 recalls that can't be completed, the trucks will be sitting on their lots until such time they get done, which is why they either give you low dollar for your F150 or don't want it.

I think lots of the trucks being bought back from Canada dealers end up being auctioned off in the US, and they can't export a truck that has recalls on it, hence the issues with the F150...

Hi guys. I created this discussion almost a year ago, when I was debating which truck yo buy and I am very surprised that it's still moving on :).
I just want to update everybody with my decision at the time as well impressions after 6 months of ownership of my new truck.
After test driving the Tundra and the Powerboost back to back few times, I liked the Ford a lot more - on every aspect (other than predicted reliability), and I ordered in January an F-150 Powerboost Lariat 502A with BAP. Originally, dealer told me 8-10 months because of the late avail. of the BAP, but the truck was built in March and I got it beginning of May.
Overall I am very happy with my decision and I have no regrets at all. I like the truck a lot more than I thought I would, and it's been perfect with no issues or recalls. I have 10k km in the 6 months, about 50% towing a 7000 lb trailer.
The 7.2KW Pro-power onboard is amazing, I was able to camp on unserviced sites and power everything I had, including AC. Engine on for about 2 minutes and then off for 20+min while powering everything.
Fuel consumption it's also better than I expected- occasionally when I drove it to work, 100km 2 ways, mixed highway with some city, - I average about 9-9.5l/100km -24-26 miles per gallon. Towing the camper - I got 12-14 miles per gallon, towing 2 atvs about 17-18 mpg.
I did not follow the new Tundras. Are they good? People happy with them?
    Cheers!

Beautiful truck and glad that you are happy with your decision. What was the MSRP on it?

    Thanks!
MSRP from the window sticker was $81K CAD(60.5K USD)+tax - but I got it for about $75K ($56K USD) +tax. This is current conversion, at the time it was different

For a brand new truck in 2022, that’s pretty good! If I get a F150, it will have to be a powerboost.

I ordered my Tremor in December, paid $63k (3% under invoice), would be north of 75k MSRP now.

Yeah the thread morphed into a civil discussion about trucks, truck trading, some Hondas, boats, etc.... 8^0
A crazy Nov 21 - Nov - 22. A year ago I strongly contemplated trading in my truck for a new one.
I buy with cash, and don't have a business or job where I can write off a payment anymore. If a truck was actually available (within a reasonable timeframe) it may have happened. A year later with what is happening, I am holding onto the dry powder, some cheap fixed term mortgage funds, .....and my truck, and waiting for another 20% ($200K) fall in house prices.

Glad to hear you liking it. My wife thinks
i’m a weirdo about Propower on board, always making fun of me. Got a full battery of proper extension cords at the ready on the basement but I always act disappointed that in the 8 months since I got that mine the power is always back on before I even make my way down there to grab them.

The more I see Tundras headed down the road the more I think although I wish their owners luck it just wasn’t my cup of tea this time around. Interested to follow through any refresh cycles to see if they can change my mind in 10-15 years when I am a bit into retirement and looking for my last truck.

Do something with the front end, give me back a bit more rear seat utility and get me a decent sized inverter in the hybrid.

Interesting piece. Mentions something I think I kind of touched on many many posts ago when deciding between the Tundra and my Powerboost. Interesting to see a professional review put it out there. The Gen2 Tundra chased after the big 3 in a lot of categories trying to match or exceed them and that didn’t translate to a sales advantage. So it seems like this time around they decided with there not being a solid return on that investment that shooting for best in class in a bunch of columns is just not the point anymore.

It changed my specific calculus but in a big picture sort of way when it’s framed like that I guess I can’t actually say it’s a bad business decision. Doesn’t make much financial sense to spend money trying to blow everyone out of the water on every measure again only to keep getting 10-15% of the sales numbers of any of the competition.

I guess I didn’t realize even the Pro doesn’t have 4A. That’s one of the features I use the most.

I almost got a base Lariat 5.0 but ended up in a 302 High xlt Powerboost package with a part time 4wd system. I gave up on leather (will add) and cooled seats (don’t care) but got nearly everything else I wanted. The full time system is the other thing I miss the most. But with 20 years using part time systems on 2 different trucks not quite enough to give me serious remorse. Just a tinge of regret, but as far as I know the Lariat I wanted was a minimum of a year off. Probably more. The XLT that had 95% of what I wanted showed up on a lot one day when most dealers only had 2-3 XLs and a 85k Platinum or 2 sitting around.

The 402A package on the tremor has the High-Lock TCase from the Raptor so I use the 4A most of the time when it rains, honestly just not used to all that power yet, coming from the Taco so I tend to spin without it. I also use it hunting a lot as the places I go are a mix of tarmac, dirt, and fields. So just put it and 4A for the day and forget it.

@eharri3 I don’t care anything about leather but wife wanted it. I have to admit I use the cooled seats way more than I thought I would, even this time of year. Never a bad idea getting a little more flow down low. But to your point, I had to wait 8 months to get it exactly how I wanted.

By some glitch even though I cancelled and got my deposit back on the Coyote truck I still get emails nearly 8 month later saying no build yet. I’d have probably been seriously screwed by the interest rate changes and used car market easing up.

The one thing I really liked about the 4a system is piece of mind for when the wife had to take it in a blizzard. She’s actually always been good through 3 different trucks about paying attention to how and when to use it. But her having a 4a option would have given me more piece of mind when she had to take it that I don’t have to hammer home when to flip or not flip the switch for the millionth time while she rolls her eyes.

I cross shopped tundra, f 150, and gmc sierra. Honestly if I could have found a toyota dealer who wasn't marking up the new tundras 10 to 15k over sticker I probably would have ended up with one. Instead I went with the GMC and so far I am pretty satisfied. I ended up with a 2022 Limited (so non-refreshed interior with "only" an 8" infotainment screen), crewcab, shortbox, 4x4 with the 3.0L duramax that has impressed me in terms of power and economy. Around town stop and go I'm seeing high teens - which is same or better than the tacoma I had. On highway if I keep it at 65 I see 33mpg - at 75mph that drops to 28 mpg. I had a trip covering 465 miles - cluster said 27.4 mpg - hand calculated was 29 and I still had a little over a 1/4 tank left. Now I have to see if the reliability is there. Only time will tell with that.

Again I apologize for such a delay in response!
on the exped note, the issues that are more than extremely common are mainly in 10 speed as of late, it starts out as “gear hunting” then you get extremely harsh shirts (planetary gear 1 and 4 are currently a tsb that ends up ultimately being a new trans) Now the worse part, there is an issue where the it will think it will act as if it needs to go into park and completely lock up! ( I have dealt with exactly 5 and one was a very unfortunate case).

other issues are within the sync system and Ford hasn’t ever got that right.
I have also been doing engine harnesses on a few units that have to be escalated to Ford engineering to where they have used one of my unit as a test subject.

But like you, I am more than shocked about the dinky space in the new sequoia. It is by far the best looking full size but wow Toyota what we’re you thinking!

This man speaks the truth unfortunately, the cam phaser recall is an absolute nightmare and Fords so called “updated parts” don’t change a thing.

so which one is the most reliable of the motors?

if I had to guess, 5.0 Coyote and then 2.7 with the 3.5 being the less reliable?

I had concerns about the cylinder deactivation in the newest gen of the 5.0. Couldn't get the 5.0 in the Tremor anyway in 21/22, but I'd still have picked the 3.5 for towing.

I believe the above issue with the 2.7 is fairly isolated. There is generally high praise for both performance and reliability in the Ford communities.
