2001 squeaky steering column?? How to upload video of it squeaking??

Are we able to upload videos on here?? I have a short 4 second video of this squeak that I can’t seem to diagnose. Can’t figure this one out and it’s annoying as heck!! Any ideas??

The forum won't take videos. You either have to upload to YouTube, and then post a link to the video or upload it to a shared Google drive or something like that.

www.imgur.com will often accept videos you can link up here just by posting the link. It will embed into the post. It's what I did when my volt gauge was fluttering. No account required, just go to that link and drag/drop the video onto their homepage.

 

I’ll have to take a video myself. My steering occasionally squeaks turning the wheel slightly left or right. I think it’s the rubber intermediate shaft coupling causing it somehow though. Raining today. No can do.

 

This is an older video, and I can't remembering exactly what I was saying in it, but it's got a squeak or two in there. @Jack McCarthy does yours sound like this?

Well, if you figure it out, let me know.

My gut instinct says that whatever kind of bearings are actually inside the steering shaft inside the cab are what's squeaking on mine, but I haven't had time to diagnose, and it all still works so low on the priority list for me.

 

There's definitely a joke in here, about lubing your shaft with that Kentucky jelly. But I'll refrain. Carry on.

 

I may try some belt dressing spray I have to see if it temporarily quiets the noise. It could be the rubber getting harder with age I suppose and rubbing against something.

@Tundra2 Is the steering rack and coupler original on yours or has it been replaced? I’m guessing original since a new one shouldn’t do that.

 

Thanks for sharing your video but mine has a deeper harsher squeak! Lol. I think mine comes from more down near the wheel area. It’s guna go into a shop cuz I can’t stand it anymore and my mechanic pal hasn’t had time to look at it. I feel your pain in your video how frustrating it is tho. I’m same way…F-this F-that…F this F-ing thing! Lol

 

Let us know what he finds out. If I have to replace something it won’t be until the spring.
