Big shout out to Keith @ Dirty Deeds, packaging was well done, flanges look great! V-bands are hi quality. Highly recomend anyone interested get in on this last run. Keith gave me lots of good asvise on install and other upgrades to first gen. Really good customer service. I hope to install them by end of February. I will try to get pre post dyno for you guys too ( schedule depending) i will keep this post going and if you ordered post them up_ ill do a thorough install post for you guys, i plan to do them while I upgrade front end/ have upper UCA'S out to minimize cussing. And yes free stickers but you better ask @ purchase ( i did and sara even followed up to let me know where I could find them in the box). Overall inpression is great! No quality issues to note.

 

Interested. Someone needs to try the land cruiser or 4runner longtubes to see if they fit.

 

Not sure if long tubes are made by anyone for anything now.

 

Can we get more info on your friend's experience and background? I would think there isn't much margin for error on these.

@BluegrapeVr6 you may want to update the thread title to include "1st Gen 4.7L" or something. Everyone can see this thread from the homepage, and I suspect you'll be getting a number of 2nd/3rd Gen guys in here wanting to buy.

If you look at the top right-hand corner of your 1st message in this thread, there's a "Thread Tools" button. You can click on that, choose "Edit Subject" or whatever, and update the thread title there so the guys from other forums don't get confused when they see this thread on the homepage - too many people use the homepage for forum interaction, but don't bother to see what sub-forum that thread is living in.

Considering i rarely get above 4krpm, i think tri-Y would be the way to go.

They stopped making late last year/early this year? Last couple of pairs sold out. Someone mentioned buying the jig, and/or asked what happened with the jig, since there was no plan to keep making, but I don't recall what came out of it. (actually, it may've been Stan's I'm thinking of... here is the reply)

I'm interested, as long as they aren't ungodly expensive lol. My current plan was to snag a pair for a 4runner and cut the SAIS off. While the flange on all UZ motors are the same pattern, the 1uz and 3uz ones worry me with fitment just because they're made for sports cars.

 

Ok sweet, thanks Shifty, I changed title. Yes. Will use collector and we can do v-band or regular bolt up flange. They will be high quality and im using my truck as beta run. It's going in mid January for mock up and fab. Fabrication is top notch and they mass produce tight clearance performance parts..(exhaust manifolds, intakes, full turbo kits, full race car builds) I can post fab p*rn if you like or I can post mine once completed. I'm going SS with V-band option as I plan to keep the truck and do the rest of the exhaust in 2.75 " down the line. I'll bump this thread after the holidays.

 

Yup, Stan retired November last year after making my headers. Sure some people are still cursing my name. Tri-Y's for the win.

 

I don't know jack shit about exhaust still. Anyway, I'll figure it out. If these are cheap enough, I'll swing for it. Maybe pay Bruce or a local custom place to do the rest of the exhaust.

Question for my Pals in the "No Fun Zone" state of CA. Has anyone successfully pass SMOG with Long Tube headers?

 

Pricing should be comparable to Dt and Jba design with merge collectors. They build 8 second street cars and custom Lamborghini turbo kits so level of fab is very good. I'll have my beta run posted mid January and we can get better idea of pricing when level of interest is determined. True full length design , my truck is pre vvti so will have to figure out who needs what and tally up numbers. Either way only small change. Might need pics to determine best location of ports/bungs, for you air pump guys that are interested. Thanks-J

The SAIS system on the VVTI motors is pumped in the heads just above the exhaust port. I made a post that I'll link to in a minute that shows this in detail. What Dirty Deeds was doing for VVTI with SAIS delete was installing the VVTI flanges onto the headers and puddle welding the holes on the flange for SAIS. This way the weld puddle could be used to plug the holes in the head and seal using VVTI manifold gaskets.

If they want to retain SAIS the injection ports will need to be collected into a log manifold with a flange towards the back of each head.

As far as O2 port locations, mimicking stock locations is best, or closest to the ending flange or v-band clamp location. O2 sensor wire extenders are readily available.

JBAs are not very nice quality anyways. Sounds like i got mine right before they stopped making them. They leak, bad. I tried different gaskets, i tried torquing the crap out of them. I finally gave up and live with the ticking.

 

Some of the ticking comes from it being a thin-wall stainless tube vs thick cast iron for the stock manifolds. It pained me to do it because the headers I have are gorgeous with a nice satin titanium ceramic coating but I installed a thick insulated heat shield on the primaries. It cut's down on the tick but is still louder than stock.

I haven't noticed an exhaust tick, it's been quiet for the last 2 years. I used Toyota gaskets and perhaps the Doug Thorley's I've got are heavier gauge.
