I bought my 2021 in Dec of 2020 brand new and have put 41K miles on it. So almost 2 years of driving. I live in the South so it gets hot. I've noticed residue on the top of the battery and I know it is battery acid leaking out of the caps and drying on the top of the battery. I saw it over a year ago. Now there is corrosion on the terminals.

I've had no issues with cranking or anything. Should I just buy a better battery?

If so, what is the best?

I'd clean it up and keep running it.
The day you hear ANY hesitation in starting, replace it.
I replace them after 3 years no matter what.

If you don't feel comfortable with it, replace it.
    I would..

I like Interstate MTP in 24F or 27F.
Whatever size battery tray you already have.

    MTP-24F battery | Interstate Batteries

    MTP-27F battery | Interstate Batteries

Don't fall for the AGM battery hype.
    They are a PITA...

Exact same age truck here, but 28k less on the clock. I plan to put in a new battery around February or March. Factory batteries seem to go at about 3yrs. I have always had good luck with Oreilly's Superstart platinum batteries. Been using them for a good 20 years and never have been left stranded. Just replaced them religiously about every 4yrs.

The corrosion needs to be addressed immediately. Make sure it has not reached the cables. Your battery should be cleaned annually and the water in each cell filled only to the point where the plastic starts. Do not overfill as this is the reason corrosion usually starts on the terminals. This is normal general maintenance. Clean the terminals and coat them VERY lightly with a corrosion prevention solution. There are a million of them so just buy a good name that's cheap. DO NOT use the cheesy felt washers as they dry quickly and then absorb your batteries vapors and then make a haven for corrosion to start.

    Screenshot (83).jpg
Clean the corrosion with whatever you have in the house. Pull the battery out and dip the terminals in a baking soda and water mixture or a can of coke, all work great. Rinse well. If you can see white powder corrosion on the cable wires that connect to the terminal you better soak the area for a while and rinse also. A properly maintained and filled battery should not corrode.

Electrolyte coming out the caps is either overfilled or overcharging.

Clean posts with a wire brush and some corrosion cleaner (if you have none, coke will do, just wash off with water to keep it from getting sticky and calling ants). Spray with corrosion inhibitor. Drink a cold beer to celebrate.

Have you checked the water level to see if you are now low?

Nope. It's currently cranking fine. It's not low or it wouldn't still be overflowing right?

I replaced my Mama Toyota factory battery at 4 years and 9 months (and 70,000 miles) out of an abundance of caution. I live in the deep south and perform good battery maintenance.

It can still crank fine and be low, you get evaporative loss when it gets really hot. Its very easy to check the level, just watch a YouTube video. Pop the caps and fill with distilled water to the end if the plastic piece inside.

If the battery is not sealed the water will evaporate when exposed to high temperatures. Most people don't check their water levels and that's why they have premature dead batteries. You can buy sealed batteries but they typically cost more.

    Ppl swear by Costco. Interstate.

If you go AGM, you'll need a booster to your charging system.

My 2021 (November of 2020) battery corroded the terminals in September 2022 @15K miles. The dealer replaced the battery, terminals, and the hold down strap at N/C.
It appears that you're out on mileage, however the dealer might still do something.

@JEHTUNDRA - that’s a flooded battery with vents on the side. Also it only has 600CCA. 27F should have 720CCA

Some Tundras come new with 24F batteries and have 24F battery trays.
That's why the website searches usually state a 24F, it fits in either.
He'll need a bigger tray for a 27F for a proper installation if he has an OEM 24F...
