It was a 100-mile ride home from the dealer. Here are first thoughts and comparisons.

    • The Hybrid version of the engine just flat smokes the TT version with Torque and HP.
    • Everything was tight the first 35 miles and then felt the engine loosening up.
    • The first 70 Miles MPG on the gauge was 16.1 running 45-60MPH through rolling hills.
    • Topped off once I hit the interstate and for the last 30 miles at 55-70MPH sitting at 23.2MPG.
    • The Hybrid motor works as advertised. There is virtually no feeling when it shifts in/out. On the downhill side of long hills-kicks in and you coast. There is no lag with re-engaging when you apply throttle.
    • There is none of the Turbo/Throttle lag noted with the 22 TRD OR.
    • Transmission shifts are seamless and feel smoother than the 22 TRD OR.
    • There is no transmission pause/gear searching when rolling into and pulling away from a stop without stopping. For sure this is an advantage of the Hybrid system.
    • The ride is what you would expect with the TRD Pro suspension. (It is one I favor). It was much flatter in corners with steering responsive and predictable. The ride was solid and responded well to all road bumps.
    • Quality: 1st pass and it appears put together much better than the TRD OR. Very little wind noise, window moldings solid and body panels appear lined up with consistent small gaps.
    • Interior panels look good and no rattles.
    • Out in the woods hunting soon so will see how the 4WD system works. I had a 17 4Runner TRD Pro that was a great off the road rig. The Tundra TRD OR was solid. I expect the 23 Tundra TRD Pro to be on par or better than the 4Runner.

    Appreciate this comparison.

I’ve sold my SR5, and waiting on my TRD Pro. Everything you’ve described, is exactly what I’m hoping for. I really enjoyed the SR5, and was having second thoughts while I wait.

I had my doubts as well. First two miles driving it and for me any doubts were gone. By the time I arrived home-big grin.

Agree. I've had both a TTV6 and the now the hybrid. The driving experience of the hybrid is worlds above the TTV6. In my opinion, it's the one option that should be must-have for everyone.

    Appreciate you pointing this out.
Was aware already that the Limited and the TRD Pro both had windshield only.
Thus, the call out for comparison and reduced noise level with the TRD Pro.

$50 says the side windows have a unique window regulator system that they will sell for an additional $240/ea side. o_O:rofl:

I test drove several of the non hybrid and thought they were great . Well except for one that had a strange idle . I ordered a 23 Limited hybrid but still never test drove one till last week . They had a 22 1794 hybrid . That was night and day difference . Smooth and powerful . Mine is coming in the midnight metallic like yours but with the stache . First thing I’ll get rid of lol

I'm glad you are happy with hybrid pro. I drove TT Trd and didn't like lag. Felt like if it had some 4:11 gears in it it would be okay. I bought Hybrid Limited model in 4wd. Decent fuel economy and decent power. Glad I choose Hybrid.

Picked mine up yesterday. Super impressed!

Similar to OP…The first 50-75 miles, didn’t impress me that much, but after that the power train woke up.

Smooth and very responsive, No lag.

The build quality is better than the 2022 SR5 I had. No wind noise, no CarPlay glitches, center console is tight, and the QI charger is very quick to charge IPhone 12 mini.

Also, even though I did not want the spray in bedliner again, i didn’t have a choice. This liner is not near as abrasive, much thicker application, and it’s wrapped around edges on tailgate. Seems to be a much better application.

I really liked the SR5 I had, and likely would’ve been totally happy with it for years had I not bought the TRD Pro. The improved build quality, and Hybrid engine, is a major improvement to my previous truck. No regrets here.

That’s good to hear about the improved build quality , I’m making the jump and I’m nervous about parting with my 2016 and getting a shit box with wind noise , plastic rattle trap

My 2022 had some wind noise, but not as bad as others have experienced. The 2023 is silent, once I turned off the annoying fake engine noise.

I know my experience is an example of one 2022 vs one 2023, but it seems Toyota is addressing the issues, and improving.

I picked up a '23 TRD PRO a week and a half ago. The build quality is excellent...no squeaks, no rattles nothing but pure driving pleasure.

I highly recommend a 3k mile break-in before you get squirrelly on the throttle. This helps prolong the longevity of the engine and turbos.

Also basic turbo care should include sitting it at idle for 30-60 seconds before turning off the vehicle whenever running it hard or for extended periods.

Doesn’t it have that built in cooling after you shut it off anyways ?

I will change out the oil after 1000 miles-depends on a +30-degree day. No hard throttle yet, just rolled over 400miles. Lots of business travel so parked at the house

Did you turn off the fake noise, or did the Stealership have to do it for you? This is something that would drive me nuts. I hope to be ordering mine sometime early 2023!

I turned it off. Had a Carista waiting for truck arrival. Turning off the seatbelt chime alone was worth the cost of Carista.

Awesome on the seatbelt chime too! There is a way on the Dodge to do it without a scanner. I assume that Amy ODBII scanner will let you do this, or do you specifically need the Carista (and related app?)?
