So an update. The online chat rejected the code when chatting, so last night called and talked to a lad in retention and gave him the code and I did in fact get it! Mine was due to expire on the 19th of November. lol Thanks @BravoDeltaRomeo

Left the house around 730pm to get some ice cream with family.

Grab my truck keys, wife says "you don't want to take the Rav?" "Nope, we will take the truck.".

Get out to the main road, 3 minutes from home and we are on the parkway doing 80kph. My wife says "look out". A medium deer comes bolting out and gets creamed on the corner of the truck, passenger side. Deer is not completely gone, but close, so I call 311, they tell me to call 911. By the time I'm done my call, luckily the deer is not suffering any more and is passed. I felt terrible but there was nothing I could do and am happy the Tundra held its ground and we didn't loose control and all passengers were fine....the truck, it's not too bad but will need some major front end parts.

I'll make an appointment with insurance but am guessing the front bumper, grille, surround, fog lights and a few other parts in behind it

Hopefully insurance isn't too difficult to work with and they cover new parts. It is just over 3y old and 30k km.

I'll be looking at aftermarket bumper and perhaps TRD grille surround and pay any difference. I'm not sure how all that works with our provincial insurance MPI (Manitoba Public Insurance).

Dash Cam video will be provided to them if necessary

Glad you and your family are safe. Looks like the Tundra did it’s job.

Yes, it was a relief that the truck handled it so well and didn't really phase us too much. It happened so fast and because the truck didn't shake or shimmy on impact, my wife wasn't even sure we had actually hit it....I knew.

I hope insurance isn't too difficult to deal with in terms of parts and costs.

I'll use this opportunity to swap to a black grille or color matched and ditch my DIY bedlined one. If the bumper is toast (I'm not sure it is based on outer appearance), I'll upgrade that as well, which I'm hoping for. I'm sure there are some plastic and metal brackets in behind, that will impact costs. Not to mention, once my shop removes things and gets deeper into the repair, I'm sure they will find additional costs.

Got my claim. Initial estimates are a couple bumper parts and end cap, grille/insert and fog light passenger side.

Talked to my shop today, looking at going with the standard Black Honeycomb Grille to avoid any sensor issues. DD Amber Fog Lights Sport ($100 out of pocket) and perhaps an N-Fab RDS bumper. The bumper would be a $1500 or so upgrade but should provide durability for minor bumps and bangs and provide some more tire clearance for our wheels.

We sure are limited on aftermarket steel bumpers up here. I was looking at the RanchHand Midnight, but I'm not sold on the looks or wait time. USA guys get a whack of choices.

We toyed with the idea of a 2017 Pro Grille but I'm hesitant with the sensor relocation bracket reviews.

The good news is, the shop said I was okay to pull/push the end cap forward to make it driveable as it is covered by insurance already and it was the only thing rubbing. So my truck is driveable again (I was away a couple weeks, so didn't need it anyways).

Good to hear! I have had the DD amber sports in my rig for a couple of years and they are amazing. They actually light up the ditch and are great in snow and fog. Good choice!

They should be a step up from my OEM with aftermarket LED lights in them. I've always liked the yellow look for fog lights.

Ordering the bumper and fogs tomorrow. Grille will be ordered by repair shop. Eibach Stage 2R shocks should be here Saturday.

Hopefully it doesn't take months for anything to get here and I can get it all installed in one swoop.

It'll be the biggest change for my truck since wheels for put on.

Which one of you guys is running Cooper AT3 XLT tires in the winter? The studded Nokian Hakkapellitas in the size I want are backordered and steel wheels are out of stock too. Figuring I'll buy the Cooper AT3 tires now and worry about the snow tires for next year. I gotta do something though, the factory Michelins suck fat donkey ding-ding.

I haven't run the AT3 but I ran the Cooper STT Maxx on my Tacoma. Still the best all around AT tire I have used on winter roads and offroad. They are only M+S rated but are much better than the snowflake BFGs I have now.

With that said, check Kijiji. I know you are further north, but there have been a ton of Tundra winter sets in Calgary and Edmonton.

I had the ST Maxx on my '05. They were great but I'm looking for something a little less aggressive.

In manitoba, have at3 xlt on right now. Only had a couple days so far with ice or snow and they seemed to grip pretty well, was impressed. I’m waiting on Cooper snow hawk studded should be here in 10 days, I’ll update again on how the xlt’s are doing if we get the expected snow before the tire swap. A little sad to lose the aftermarket 18” rims and beefy tire look to go back to the stock 20” rims for winter though.

    Thanks, much appreciated.

I'd be interested in how that would work. I loved my ST Maxx, but a big reason I bought the Nokians was because the Maxx didn't do very well in the ice. Deep snow was fine, but on compact snow and ice they weren't very good. Studs may have helped alot though.

Great deal on a Penn Battle III - 3000 reel, $110, free shipping. No affiliation, I just own a few Penn reels and am always watching Amazon for a deal on the Penn Slammer.

I picked the same model model and size up in the summer for what I thought was a great price of $146. Fulfilled by Amazon.ca for return and billing purposes.

so a few days of driving on the Cooper AT3XLT now that winter has arrived
    - pulls/tracks a bit on snow and 'textured' ice
    - decent traction on highway ice
    - disappointed with performance in loose snow. a few inches of snow with no base, tires don't dig in as much as expected.
    - takeoff from a dead stop on ice or snow.... meh
    - I'm coming off a 2018 Sierra Denali and 2020 F150 Lariat, both of which have excellent auto-4WD systems IMO. Part of my experience may be attributed to the Tundra traction control being a bit more clunky that Ford or GM's, and may be less due to the actual tire capability. Or me being a lazy driver after driving a Ridgeline AWD and a Ford/GM product with great 4auto over the last 10 years.

I was waffling on if I even needed dedicated winter tires with these AT3XLT being new and decent snow and ice ratings online, but after driving a few days on them I'm glad I'm moving to true winters next week.

Yes, a couple times as well as a few others.

There are a few made in USA suppliers of kinetic but the majority of overseas made and questionable quality and not sure you can trust the ratings. The Canadian made one looked interesting for the Canada factor, but they seem to be non-existent in terms of reviews and online presence or even website presence, which has me questioning them.

In the end, I don't see many stuck cars, don't don't go wheeling or serious off roading, so don't really "need" them. I could probably get by with a shovel and my off brand recovery boards (which have helped someone stuck last year).

Stupid people, liability and safety, are pushing me towards just trying recovery boards when I come across someone in a snowed ditch. That and the fact that most people won't even know where their recovery or tow points are in their little cars and I won't feel like researching for each stuck car. It'll save me a few hundred bucks too.

Maybe I'll just carry some CAA stickers and throw them out the window as I pass buy in 4x4. :bananadance:

If and when I get around to doing some "off roading" myself, I'll spring for quality gear and make use to go with a partner. That will likely be in 5-6y or so when I retire.

Yeah, I hear y’a. Same situation, not really off reading in it, but I do carry regular tow straps - non kinetic. That I can hook to hitch & help if needed. Never needed it in past mind you, but just in case stuff.

Do any Canadians have experience with the below vendor? There are a few 12Volt sites and believe the USA one is well regarded.

I don't want to order crap of if they are shaddy.

No but I pulled my 12v Solutions remote starter out when I was diagnosing a parasitic drain and never put it back in. If it’s the same product it’s decent. I should probably sell it.

I don’t, but am interested, both for when my 3yr free subscription ends & for wife’s hybrid RAV4 - something that doesn’t shut off when you open door, & doesn’t need a subscription.

My 19 SR5 doesn't have it and I could go either way.

I'm looking for my wife's 2020 Rav4. She doesn't like going out in -30 all winter at 630am for work. She starts before me, so I can't even start it for her.
