Just finished making my brine for tomorrow's birdbath, smells amazing. Told the wife that if times keep getting tougher, we can have this as a soup a few nights a week. She was not pleased.

I'm hoping my fancy brine, and a fresh bird this year absolves me from the complete disaster I produced last year. :spy:

So.... my FIL absolutely HAS to have that crappy canned cranberry sauce w/his meal every year. You know the one that makes that weird suction sound as it's sliding out of the can and then, no matter how it lands, does the jelly dance on the plate and retains all of its ring marks from the can....

Does hers involve oranges? My mom makes a killer……everything, but I never hated her cranberry relish or whatever.

P.s....I didn't realize we were doing a lil fire tonight and my wood pile got rained on yesterday and a bit today. Even with my wood wet :)rolleyes:), thr trusty log cabin style still produced a fire. Just took a lil bit longer to dry it out/off and catch. Should have taken it before we poked at it and reloaded it.
    20221122_191952.jpg
Kids later threw some packet on it that changed the colors of the flame to blue and green. Prob toxic, but whatever.

The redemption, I hope wont be about the cooking. Last year my wife bought a frozen bird which we never usually do, and I completely miscalculated the in-fridge thawing time. When I took it out to prep it, it was still half frozen. Did an emergency warm bath to resuscitate it, but it ended up being completely inedible. :(

Could be worse. I used to work at a grocery from when i was 16-20. Every year, people were buying these huge turkeys....frozen phukin solid....on Thanksgiving day or the night before expecting to thaw them in time! One was damn close to 40#s. Bless their hearts.

I went early this morning for two super stupid items, and don’t plan on going back unless it’s for alcohol, which it’s walk/skateable

This is how I feel about stuffing too! I don’t know why I don’t make it more times throughout the year instead of gorging myself every Thanksgiving.

We'll be at the in-laws, so a pretty low key day for us...

There are always (2) cranberries at the table can and fresh (I'm not sure everything that goes in it, but very bright, tart and refreshing... oh.. definitely has orange)

Been working lots but wanted to check in. Midnight in Louisiana and I’m off to New Mexico for Thanksgiving. Wife and kids have been there since the weekend via airplane. Im driving straight through and coming home with them Sunday. Hopefully the Mrs will be ready to drive a bit on the way home so I can catch some rest.

Truck should turn 15,000 by the time I get back. Will be my 3rd oil change (doing every 5k) and tire rotation and whatever else they might have scheduled for 15k.

    Missed you sorry bastards :D

So glad I’m in Disney this year. No cooking, no extended family, and I’m not a fan of the traditional thanksgiving dinner anyways. I’m gonna get myself some red meat. Poultry is only good for buffalo wings.
