I went to take the wheels off to check the torque on the wheel spacers and can't find the key for the locking lug nuts. They are the ones that came with the truck. Anybody got a trick for getting them off?

Hit up a local tire shop. They gave me a new key for mine.

I went to my local dealer and they have me 4 stock lugs for free to replace my keys. I figured no one wants to steal my stock rims anyways.

Yeah, gonna call discount and the dealership tomorrow. It's on the monronney sticker, so hopefully the dealer can get me the right one. Not sure if they are all the same. Or if they make the keyway different on each set.

I have a spare set of factory lugs. I'm not worried someone stealing the wheels. The question is how to get them off without the key.

Oh yeah, I got that bit. Was just going one step further with the idea of getting rid of them completely. I've had one strip in the past too, as more of a reason to lose them altogether.
    Tire shop for sure though.

If you need them off now, find a socket that is close, hammer it on, then you can get them off. Works fine w one, because you tend to ruin the socket. For four of them,.... got lots of loose sockets lying around????

Yeah, guess I'm a Jeff to! Unless RSG took the wheels off for some reason when they did the alignment. But I don't see why they would have needed to. I'll call them tomorrow just in case. I think I probably left it on the floor and it rolled out somewhere when the door got opened.

I used to work at a tire shop. They usually have a "master" set of keys that will fit about 90 percent of all OEM locking lugs. If they don't, another option is to grind a slot into the top of the lug nut to make it look like a giant flat head screw and the hit it a few times with an air hammer and chisel to get it to spin.

That's what I was thinking. I worked in a tire shop years ago, we had a special smooth tapered socket that you beat on with a rubber mallet. Then you just hit it with an impact gun and they would come right off without any damage to the lug or wheels.

Discount tire has a special tool that will remove wheel locks. It will ruin the lug nut, but at least you have it off.

    Toyota/Lexus has ~12 different locks.

In he past 2 years, I have had to replace 3 wheel locks.

Lexus was not there when I purchased it.
Tundra the tire shop broke when putting the locks on.
Tacoma- dealership must have broke it. They were the only ones that used it.

We now have a process that the wheel locks come off before the rotation and balance and replaced after. In all three situations we would have been in trouble if a flat would have occurred.

Discount didn't have anything to remove the wheel lock.

The dealerships (Toyota and Lexus) both said they sell no less than 5 per week due to tire shops using air rattle guns.
