I am having problems with my cable modem locking up. Techs have been here. Too much to explain. But I was able to get the router logs of the errors when it locked up a couple times. But I have no idea what it means. I did get it to a tech that is assigned to me but I haven't heard back. I would like to have an independent opinion.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Before posting the logs, you might want to do a text search on them to make sure none of your critical info is in there, like login info or personal info. Once you're satisfied that they don't reveal anything sensitive, post them and someone will try to help.

Just open the logs in Notepad and search for your usernames, passwords, and other info that might compromise your security. You can replace them with x's if you want and save the log before posting it.

Do you own it or are you leasing it, if you are leasing it I would request a replacement.

Honestly, this. As an IT guy of 20+ years, if you *pay* for your modem monthly and THEY can't figure it out? Make them replace it. I wouldn't waste time on troubleshooting it.

I know this sounds insane but try another powersupply. About a year ago my modem "died" I need internet 24/7/365 so went to BB & got a new one. The wires behind my entertainment center are a PITA so I used the in place wall wart, same issue. I replaced it with the new one and all was well.

I now have a new in the box backup modem.

It is a new modem that is locking up. I bought an Arris. The cable company's modem was doing the same thing and I took it back. Yes I am making the cable company figure it out, but I need to get on with life. I want to try to solve it since they are taking forever.

That makes sense. I haven't ever rented a cable or DSL modem. I read early on that the quality of the rentals was really bad, so I just bought them. Arris was one of the good brands.

Back in the days of the 2010s my first career was as a network engineer, I started off with the local cable company.

You can shoot the logs via email to this username @ Gmail and I'll see what's happening.

Strongly wager that you're seeing fluctuating signal strength levels due to a connector or line issue, probably along your house drop if it's not inside the house itself, unless your neighbors are all experiencing the same thing.

Agreed. I was astounded last year when I learned the Arris I bought from Amazon in 2019: ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 was still the top of the line in '21.

This is what i was thinking. I had the copper coax line go bad on me (most likely one of the connectors) that was giving me issues. Comcast tech came out and looked at the noise level with a little oscilliscope looking thing and was like "wow".
Slapped a new coax line in and noise went away.

I seem to recall that CenturyStink put a filter on the cable by my modem and it worked better? I now have Sparklight and am pretty happy with them.

Cabling was all replaced from the street to the modem when I moved in 2 1/2 years ago. (They eventually came back and buried it as I have underground service.) It has all been replaced two times since then. When I say replaced I mean new underground wire from the street to box on side of my house AND then new cable from that box through the attic poking through the wall and plugged into the back of the modem. One continuous cable from the box on side of house the the modem.

    Medcitymoto email is being sent.

I have seen some crappy coax terminations so maybe check those. Also make sure any splitters, blocks or equipment they go through are properly grounded. Maybe it runs through an indian burial ground?

As cheap as they are these days, I'd just buy a new one especially since you just want to move on.

Mold old rented modem was doing it. That is why I took it back to them and bought one.
You don't know how close you are on the indian burial ground comment!! :rofl:The only connectors are at the street, the grounded box on the side of my house, then one straight run through the attic direct to the modem. They've reterminated several times.
It is an app on my laptop direct tunneled through to Private Internet Access' servers where it exits onto the internet. I think I am in Arkansas today. I can pop in from Europe if you would like. :D

Ok, so it isn’t through your router then. This can cause issues.

I'm pretty geeky but I have never attempted setting up a router for vpn. I don't have the stomach for it! I've heard the nightmares.
