Hey do you know the difference between Grizzly bear pop and Black bear pop? Grizzly bear pop has those little bells that people wear to scare them off in it....lol and probable some of those cans of bear spray.

In Alaska, when hiking in bear country, always bring someone who can't run very far or fast. Just saying.
A friend of mine up there accidently sprayed himself in the face with bear spray crossing a fence. Not a good thing to have happen. heh heh

I never go camping without my satellite boom box. Nice to be able to listen to whatever I want to in the middle of BFE--plus it keeps the bears out of camp. Not exactly backpack-friendly, but easily packs in the truck.

Also, I recently picked up a ResQLink+ PLB for a 'tool of last resort' to bring the cavalry after I fall off the mountain and snap my leg in three places.

the ResQLink runs around $250 to $280. I have one. Well worth the cost. You may only need it once, but it may save your life. We carried them hunting and on our boat when halibut fishing on Cook Inlet in AK where it can get nasty quick. Definitely a must have if you find yourself out off the grid a lot.

Got mine from thegpsstore.com for $249.95 with free shipping. Looks like they've got a deal going on right now until the end of the month for a $50 rebate too.

Going camping this weekend. Had to refresh my personal list to get everything ready. Reviewing this list was a good way to know what i needed to pack and buy.

Once you get to the campground, for every item you use, put a mark on it. When you get home make two piles. One pile of what you actually used, and one pile of stuff you didn't. I'm betting you will be surprised at the relative size of the two piles.

How old is this picture? If you take those cameras, you'll have a hard time finding film, and a harder time finding a place to get it developed.

As far as rain gear goes, I'd recommend Frogg Toggs. $20-$30 for jacket and pants and they don't rip as easily.

I like the old-school army poncho. Can double as a rain catcher and/or shelter.
