We did as kids. Keep in a cage and cater to them. Quail eggs were good, but typically just a simple snack. But more difficult to make. Chickens are good pest control if they can wonder freely, eggs are quick to make a meal, and of course are good eating pending breed you get. But I do like some good quail stew. Haven't messed with them since Jr high or so.

Have you AZ dudes ran into any tarantula hawks (Pepcid wasps); we ended up w/a couple of them near the dog kennels the last couple of years in Vegas... didn't find them to be too aggressive, but apparently their sting is incredible... The Schmidt Sting Pain Scale has them rated at a 4 along w/bullet ants and a couple of others!

"Schmidt later gave the sting of a tarantula hawk species, Pepsis grossa, a rating of a 4,[2] which he described as "blinding, fierce [and] shockingly electric",[3] though the duration of pain from the sting is short-lived, lasting only approximately five minutes.[2] The composition of tarantula hawk venom is unknown."

I saw a video once when I was trying to figure out what the hell it was, and the dude doing the video said, the sting is slightly delayed, but if you get stung just go to the ground, ball up in the fetal position, and prepare to cry :eek2:

When my daughter first got her house the kids and dog stayed covered in ticks. She got 6 guinea Hens and no more ticks.

The eggs are decent too but there's no rhyme nor reason to where they lay them. Running across they yard, plop out comes an egg.

I've seen a couple of the wasps but I have yet to see any scorpions at my house. My old house had a shit load of scorpions, they liked to hang out in the water meter and irrigation boxes. Even though I haven't seen them here I still tap out my shoes every morning before putting them on. I need to get a black light and walk around the back yard, I'm sure they are there.

When I had them at my parents, the first few weeks were training them where food cones from. Later on, I had to train them where eggs were laid. I painted Easter eggs white and put 2 or 3 of them in the boxes. Within less than a week they were laying exclusively in the box.
But letting them roam the yard got rid of all bugs, including ants surprisingly

This is good information, as I just stepped on an ant hill about an hour ago and contemplated setting my entire yard on fire.

My SIL did the food part. I guess he never thought about the egg part. But yes, all bugs gone. Except mosquitoes, f mosquitoes.

Yea....couldn't eliminate that. If we found something that could, I'd have a breeding farm of said species, and would retire the same day

    Just an annoyance.

Was doing a small project for fun and the last step hosed it all... and in a way it will be easier to start over than to try and fix it. Oh well

Edit: while doing the last step I managed to hose it up.
