“The Mountain” should be able to sit in the truck and not have plastic side break. Such BS. Toyota can’t claim wear and tear on something that only has 10,000 miles that is a friggin seat panel.

My question is why GM over Ford? I don’t trust GM drivetrain.

My previous experience with a silverado, while brief, was very positive, from both the truck and dealership.

I like the way the 5.3 accelerates and the fuel milage. I got 21 yesterday coming back from OKC. Comfort of the seat, leg room and the way everything seems to flow together, from the remote start to interior layout, IMO is very well thought out.

I do not like the seats in the F150 at all. A friend has one and it is very uncomfortable. My brother is a Ford guy, he has a explorer and I did consider one, until I sat in his, felt like the F150 seats, could not do it.

Looked at Ram and Nissan as well, both are nice, have lots of features, but over all I liked the Silverado more.

Price point for the Silverado LT was $53,600, all that I looked at, 3 differing colors, were all equipped like I wanted or close to it. I knew not having a lot of equity and the broken seat trim was going to ding me and it did, but I still got the trade done so all is well.

The 5.3 I have now is not DFM equipped, yes I know the parts are in the engine but the engine hits on all 8 all the time, so less likely to have the lifter failure happen. It also has the 10 speed transmission vs the 8 speed which are known to have issues.
If there is a lifter failure then GM will repair it.

 

I used to be a GM guy. 4 of the last 5 ones I owned had engine problems including the 53, 36, 46 and 14T between 30k to 75k. Only exception was DMax which would probably last a million miles. I have owned Ram, Toyo, Lexus, Kia and Honda with zero engine problems. Decided life too short to beg GM to fix their junk.

 

Same here. My previous truck was an 18 Silverado. At 65K miles, one of the exhaust manifold bolts broke. Bolts were “excluded” from factory and extended warranty.

The remaining portion of the bolt did not turn out with vice grips so the engine had to be lifted out and sent to a machine shop to be drilled and tapped. $3000 job. Ended up making out OK because of the crazy used market early this year.

Between the well-known lifter issues and all the other GM crap, I am surprised people still buy them.

That was my fifth and final GM vehicle, they lost a customer for life. Hence why I am now in my first Toyota.

 

Congrats on the new Silverado Rich. I'm not really surprised. That Silverado is a better fit for you imho. Looks nice too!

 

Enjoy the new rig…I must admit I like the bumpers on them better than the Toyota’s (keep it simple)

I almost broke even.

The tundra was sticker at $46,000 and change. I ended up financing $43,000 and change, including TT&L.

The chevy dealer gave me almost $43,000 for it. I got dinged for the damaged seat panel. I knew that going into the deal and was upfront the evening before when I was texting the salesman pics of the tundra.

I leased the silverado, residual is $29,000 and change, I also rolled my down payment, first months payment and TT&L into the lease.

My goal is to buy this one out at lease end and just drive the heck out of it going forward.

In the end I wanted out of the tundra just was not happy and why continue to pay for something you do not enjoy.

These were my choices, good or bad and I own them, no one forced me to do anything.

 

From what I’ve heard the 6.2 gets better mileage than the 5.3. When I got my 22 1794 it was a tough call between that and a Denali 6.2.

 

Yes they both have it. Not all of them tho are active with it, thankfully mine is not.

 

I did not realize how much I missed a remote start that actually works, heated seats and heated steering wheel and a truck that in the morning depending on temps when I hit remote start, turns on the heater, heated seats and steering wheel, defroster for the back glass and side mirrors and is all warmed up and stays running when I unlock it.

 

Agreed, but things are what they are in the world and I have found that every choice you make is a roll of the dice anymore.

 

They must have fixed that because I'm pretty sure the 2019s didn't stay running when you remote started them.

All good! I'm working nights so I'm just now seeing this. Looks really nice, too. They got rid of the old style. Yours looks so much better and less cheap!

 

If I had to buy a new 1/2 ton today (I’d probably get a 3/4 ton) I’d most definitely buy a GM with the LZO 3.0 duramax. The new tundra doesn’t make my list. Been following the owners pages of those and everyone seems very pleased and not many issues. 30+mpg on the highway is pretty nuts combined with the 10 speed and good torque.

From the complaining on GM-Trucks, I got the impression it was part of the 2019 redesign. Then again, I could be completely misremembering as I haven't been over there in a while.

 

my neighbor has a 2020 3.0L diesel. loves the truck and gets pretty good fuel econ, but has had lots of trouble with the truck. Had to have the crankshaft replaced at 18k km after it lost all its oil. dealer said it was about a $27K bill if he was out of warranty. yikes
