How can you justify a $125.00 price increase for firewood? They already jacked up our electric rates 64% starting last Month, not good.

I'm not justifying anything. Without getting into ban territory, it's not your wood guy that is effing the prices on your electricity, and he has to pay for his and his fuel for cutting/hauling wood too.

I'm still burning last year's cord. Haven't looked yet, but I'm sure it'll be the same story here.

I always wear gloves and look close before bringing it inside.

When we were house shopping 20+ years ago, a real wood fireplace was a must have. Not usually a big thing here in the desert, but it is for me.

Scorpions in the wood stack? Fuck all that. I'd rather be looking over my shoulder for a grizz while gathering wood than worrying about scorpions in the wood stack.

I wasn't blaming my wood guy for our new electric rates, that's a separate gripe. ;) As far as the wood prices go, all the wood we get here is local, mostly from tree service companies that remove trees for customers, then cut, split and season them for extra money on the side. I've been using the same guy for like ten years now and his yard is like 5 miles away, so I still call Bullshit. :)

I went out scorpion hunting in sandals one night. Had the black light on one and was walking over to it, then when I stopped to get the raid ready I got stung on the foot by a different one. That fucking hurt. I rained down hellfire on them for weeks after that. In shoes.

Years ago when I was a mailman I opened up a mailbox and there was a scorpion inside. I instinctively smashed it with what I was holding which of course was the persons mail.

It was. I thought about it for a second, knocked the carcass out of the box with the mail and threw it in, then drove to the next box.

    1. I'm not a submarineologist.

    2. Google done messed that up. I searched for "boomer submarine", it gave me a fast attack boat.

    3. Submarines are badass, which makes @WBW a badass by default for serving on one. :oldglory:

This is snow run off at Romero Pools, I’d guess it’s like 50-59 degrees, it’s chilly!
The weather there is crazy, one year it got down to 18, one year it was like 55 at night, one year it snowed on us on the hike up. I’m hoping to take my main man again this year, and stay 2 nights up there with him and the boys.
This was last year, he did the 6+mile round trip hike like it was nothing!!!

    I should clarify.
Mine are typically more like a cross between the log cabin and the pyramid. The pyramid is lame, because the flames don't burn UP into the layers above to work on feeding the fire, but as someone mentioned the log cabin also suffers from feeding well.

If you build the first layer like the log cabin, and sometimes the second layer depending on the size of the pieces you use for the first, then stack the rest up like the pyramid (but with larger pieces), then you'll have the self-feeding advantages of the pyramid and the more stable burn of the log cabin.

The point of the pyramid is to burn a through the night. Think of it like a slow burning fuse.

You can do a similar concept with a log cabin style using green wood and wetting the outside periodically.
