Overdrive light not on dash truck is driving in overdrive

Any help is much appreciated I have a 2004 tundra And I am dealing with no overdrive light on the dashboard I’ve already taken the steering wheel column off check the wire harness and everything is OK with that big problem driving down the road and overdrive seems to take a lot of gas any ideas on what this could be

 

Have you checked your trans fluid level?

 

Stock size tires?

 

Yes I did check it and it looks fine and at the proper level

 

So my check engine light just went on last night and then I did some troubleshooting and came across the pink milkshake dilemma and freaked out when I looked inside the reserve which was empty and had a small amount of pinkliquid. The vehicle did not get hot and the radiator level was to the top clean no leaks

will wp bushings leak into the oil pan?

Ouch. I hope not. Sometimes it can be hard to detect pink milkshake just by looking at the transmission dipstick since both are red-ish in color.

I would crack open your transmission pan drain plug and inspect it that way. A drain and fill never hurts. You'll need 4-5 quarts. If you truly have coolant in your transmission that's a whole new can of worms but we'll try to help.

Is it the original radiator? Coming up on 19 years old.

 

I bought this truck used about a year ago and looking at the radiator it definitely looks like it could be the original it’s a denso . Overdrive light does not come on and There is a pulling feel and So I started reading and the general opinion was that it could be the wire harness underneath the steering column.. wire harnesses was ok.Is there another harness relay or fuse connected to the overdrive thanks for all your opinion

Yes .. overdrive button issue was my first concern when I jumped over to the radiator…So do I need to replace the gearshift ..

 

I was tagging another member that had a similar issue to get his thoughts. Let's see what he says.

 

Toyota uses red (/pink) coolant, so pink is normal. If the coolant is cloudy pink, like pepto bismol, that's a huge issue, and could potentially cause this. If it's the case, you need to stop driving it ASAP, replace the radiator with genuine Denso, full radiator flush, full trans flush, but passive flush, not forced flush.

 

I did. The harness under the wheel isn't the issue it's right at the end of the shifter. If memory serves you have to actually pull the shifter out to be able to see the damage.

 

This is a little unclear to me. Let's start with the OD light. Are you saying that when you press the OD button (so that it's in the out position) on the shift lever that the OD Off light does not illuminate on the dash? Did you check the bulb?

What happens under the following conditions: you're driving over 50 mph at light throttle on level ground, and you press the OD Off button. Does the RPM change?
