Snow mode?

For those who have the new Tundras, do you get a snow mode by chance? And how does it work? Does it enables 4hi automatically? Can you turn your wheels without getting binding?

Any information you can provide regarding snow performance, would be beneficial!

 

It's a "deep snow" setting in MTS. You have to be in 4h to select it. It just changes your traction control settings (and maybe other settings) to allow for some more wheel spin. You cannot manually select a gear below 2nd in that mode.

 

Deep snow mode shouldn't be a problem with binding due to being in snow. Any 4 hi mode on pavement will bind. Snow mode just turns off traction control, stability ect. I've used it quite a bit last couple days, quicker to switch to snow mode than go through menu's and turn all the safety stuff off.

 

My current issue with my 2.5 Gen Tundra is that the roads are mixed. What i mean by that is that some areas are icy, snowy and others are neither, and you go from icy to not icy, and viceversa. So puts me in a situation where I need to be switching from 4hi to 2wd, to prevent binding when turning on streets.

I guess I’m so used to awd, that I’m having a hard time getting used to the way trucks do it.

I wanted to see if the new tundra does it differently, but doesn’t appear it does, just have a mode called snow mode that disabled nannies.

 

Unfortunately it wasn't quick enough for me today lol. I got too far to the right and slide off the road. Punched it and made it a little ways, but power cut. Then wasn't able to hit the MTS button, clear the vcs warning, and then select the deep snow mode before I had lost all momentum.

If you're not making super sharp turns, or if the road is wet, you should be fine in 4Hi. If it's a really sharp turn and it's bad enough that you need 4WD you should be going slow enough that you'll have plenty of time to switch it back to 2WD for the turn. Patchy roads that aren't super twisty just leave it in 4Hi and keep the speed down as the conditions warrant.

 

New tundra does not have 4auto which is what you are describing. From a guy coming off an 18 Sierra and 2020 f150 with excellent 4auto systems, super disappointed that the tundra doesn’t haven’t it - but I’m learning to live with it which just means driving a bit less lazy than I have been for years with the 4auto crutch. Still sucks manually turning 4hi off and on when going from ice to snow to dry pavement turns and back again, repeatedly. With the gm and ford I turned 4auto on/off exactly twice. On in early winter and off in spring. Glorious.

What made you come to the Toyota camp especially from Sierra and F150?

I really hope they include the 4auto soon.
