I have a 500/1 to pick up as well, aiming to get that with the sub box on Monday. 2 year wait for that one.

In ATL, there are both noisy exhaust laws and this new hot rod/racing ordinance stuff, where you can be written up and even have your car impounded if you're going around gunning it to make your exhaust bark, squealing tires, etc.
Damn, you guys are killing me. WTF?!

I went w/HD series, JL HD900/5, because I needed something compact with a stout bridgeable channel for my two 8s, and still have headroom for mids/highs.

I started with RD for the Tacoma as the plan. That was 2+ years ago. Bought and paid for both amps, marv sub boxes, and speakers.
He didn't have the sub amp ready when I went to go pick up, maybe 1 year ago. So I'm still waiting. Hope to nab it next week with the Tundra sub box, on my drive north.

Since then, the VX's grabbed my attention thanks to coastie ron. I really like the compact size, and I really like the possibility of a single amp for each truck, once you go to dual amps it's not only a lot of extra form factor space, more mounting headache, and the pain of fuse distribution and a common ground meaning more snaking of large cables.

They don't yet have a 7 or 9 channel VX amp, that would be ideal, as the final solution is 2 way widebands in the pillars, 6x9's in the front doors, and coaxials in the rear doors w subs behind the seat. Speaking of the 2016.

For the Tundra, it's just tweeters and mids in the doors and a single sub. The 5 channel is overkill for that but the 2 channel, as tiny as it is, would only feed either the subs or the mids w passive xovers.

They do have a vx 8 way (it's spendy!) which might be an OK plan for the 2016 if I bridge two for the subs but it's a bit low on power for 2 12's and that still doesn't get me fully independent active xovers on all 8 inputs.

So, I think my plan is the 5 channel vx in the Tacoma for simplicity, a 3 way passive crossover for the fronts (amp under one seat, both crossovers under the other seat) and then the xd for the Tundra for the door speakers using those passive crossovers and another xd 300 for the sub once I get to that point.

Right now I'm going entirely off head unit power, it's pathetic. No time to do fun installs. Even though I have 50' of 2 gauge and a dual battery setup.

I could also do vx 8 way, no passive crossovers, full active control of all cutoffs and slopes and ability to tune (would be fun) then a separate vx 500 for the sub, though at that point the value of the vx is mostly lost, it's just a dumb sub and the xover is from the 8 way anyway.

So, keeping the sub amp makes plenty of sense.

I definitely don't have need for the 400/4 in any setup I can see, it doesn't have active crossover capability built in so it'd only be of value in the Tacoma and with the 5 channel being the same size and already purchased, I don't think the 4 way will get used. The only remote chance was as a single amp for the Tundra or '05 Taco w rear channels bridge.

I also have an old A/B JL 300w amp, slash series or whatever? I think the floor of the Tundra is actually drilled for it (sins of my youth)

Here in MA, it depends upon what town you drive through. The towns that are more affluent, some of the cops carry decibel meters with them. I'm not sure how they gauge what's a violation unless they only ticket at a certain threshold that's above every car maker's stock output. They'll probably also check any tint and write you up if you're not wearing a seat belt if they don't catch you for anything else.

It's like the tread blocks are almost as tall as the sidewalls. Never seen an off-road tire with that low a profile.

I've got an RD500/1 that's going in my work van with a cheapo amp for the fronts. I still have a 500/1 and 300/4 slash series shifty sold me a few years back. I'll see if I can make them work in my gfs car with all that integrated BS. If not I'll put it in my daughter's accord.

Welp, just shrank another few inches after seeing that.

I just can't get into that nonsense. I rarely see shit like this since I left Floridastan. Occasionally one will pop up if I've gotta go to the 'burbs, ATL north.

Probably take me years before I get it done, possibly a decade?

I have some small hopes of building a shop over the next 2 years. Trying to move forward on a surveyor so I know the exact setback limits. I think 25x15 is possible to fit, pending a solution to the meter which would make it more like 22x15. Possibly a few more feet. Unsure about the driveway.

Say it happens, it's heated/cooled, and I can fit any of the 3 trucks in, now I can work at night when the kids are asleep and work incrementally, leaving everything out, a few hours at a time.

I can't do any of that in the garage (and it's damn cold in there) or the kids will mess with it and parts will get lost. I also really need to have a vehicle which can take small children to school right now which means the 2016 Tacoma. Once the younger kid starts taking the bus in September then the need for child transport is reduced.

I'll probably try to tinker with the Tundra as the project vehicle first, since the Tacoma is semi stable for now. Best to have only one vehicle on blocks at a time.

My jeep is exempt now. And the titan is only missing the back cats. Tundra is on the up&up, but ive gotta do something about the lights by February. It does make a mighty fine yard truck though.
