Doing some recon on McGeorge Toyota today.

-lower ball joints $90/side. I feel like this is roughly what I paid in 2019.

-rack and pinion listed as backordered. No price listed.

    -lower control arms- $241/side

-remanufactured CV axles are not listed. @des2mtn where did you order yours?

I have one spare cv I believe. I think Brent has my other one. I forget what brand I got to replace them, CVJ?

That’s interesting you say that. My little sister lived out in Colorado Springs many years ago when she told others she was an Atheist and yet they made her feel uncomfortable trying to do everything to save her.

Some people just don’t want to be saved.

Just remember the core charge too. In my case, the local dealer price was slightly more but since I was returning a core, it would've cost me much more to ship it back to McGeorge than I would've saved.

I don't need axles. I was just curious what they cost these days. My CVJ axles are still working well for now.

Nobody wants to be saved by hypocrites. What a lot of people believe today is a perverted version of script, and they'd burn the big guy at the stake for his beliefs based on how they treat others behaving in the same fashion today. It's a joke, and they don't even see it, it's really disheartening. But as Forrest Gump said, "that's about all I'll say on that".

Forewarning: Jump on it. Last year some folks waited, and the price doubled and tripled after the holiday, up as high as $225 and cheapest I could score was $161. Here's the proof (scroll onwards from here):
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/front-cv-axel-recommendations.110714/#post-2861662

Oh, and any time you can't get the part to come up at the Toyota Parts site, remove the hyphens. Toyota's system sometimes can't tell the difference between the legacy part number (43430-0C010-84) and the current part number (434300C01084).

At $75/CV, it's almost worth buying and eating the core charge just to have a spare set of axles, it costs almost as much as a single axle at the normal price.

My local dealer had gone up too. They've since been back to the original price I paid for awhile now so we can only hope that the price change was a one-time error.

If Toyota has any holiday parts sales that apply I might pick up another since I still have a core laying around.

Yup. Including core and 28% off picking up at a dealership 13 miles away (seems my normal dealership isn't participating anymore?!), it's not horrific, but ...

I had to hit a couple of dealerships to find best price. Half of them are at 30% off. A couple at 28%, one at 12% off, and one at full MSRP (no discount).

You the man shifty, now that you mention it I do remember breaking a few on the tundra now. Appreciate it, I’ll probably swing by the dealer and grab a few just in case. It’ll be the weekend before I get To it. Trucks parked in the dry till then

1st gen tundra arms are dirt cheap compared to 3rd gen taco. The ball joint isn’t part of the arm on the 1st gen. I got a set for $100 from someone in Colorado. 50 miles

Surely this gets thrown out of court once he proves the car is completely stock. Ridiculous he’s in the situation to start with though

If the car is legal to sell in the state stock, it's legal to drive stock. This is a no-brainer slam dunk for any lawyer interested in taking it on. Sad, it'll probably cost the owner money, but I'd urge them to crowdfund for legal fees to cover the time, hassle, and money.

So… this car thing. From a legal perspective, I see two alternate legal arguments, and they’re conflicting. One is, stock vehicle and the State ref should have tested in “normal” mode if that’s the rule they’re prescribed to follow. If the judge goes for this argument, I think they’ll postpone a ruling and extend time to the vehicle owner to get it retested, then return to court.

But a cantankerous judge might rule more toward “intent” of the law (compared to “letter” of the law, which requires the vehicle be tested in “normal” mode)— and rule that it is appropriate that the state ref tested the car in “track” mode if that is the mode the driver admitted the vehicle was in, when the cop stopped him. It is “reasonable” under the law to expect that “track” mode is for driving in a “track” environment, which public highways are not. Interpretation of law is supposed to hinge on “reasonableness”. The vehicle manufacturer is not responsible for warning vehicle owners about potentially bad decisions they may make while operating the vehicle. If the judge rules this way, I think the driver may have a hard time getting a higher court to hear an appeal.

I’ve lived in California a long time— so long that I see the merits of the 2nd argument are not less compelling than the first.

    California bad.

What's happening to that dude definitely sucks but it's not the norm, hopefully it gets sorted out. Wonder if there is some sort of history between him and the cop.

I don't want to say that it won't be an issue, but be smart about it. If you're running open headers, yeah you'll get pulled over. Don't be an idiot in residential or major populated areas. Don't break more than one law at once. There are definitely people here with loud exhausts and ricers here, it's not like cops are pulling people over left and right for anything they can here.
