So my truck allocation has been changed from a 4x2 to a 4x4, which I preferred, and it has a skid plate. Supposed to arrive in 35 days. Will my Talon shield work with the skid plate?

If you are looking for full skid plate protection, We are also working on a front skid plate and a Transfer case skid plate for the 2022. I got a little behind on it, but am coming back around to it.ruck, but am working on getting a 2022 scanned and test fitted.

The front (engine) plate won't be applicable to you if you are going with the TRD pro plate, but you may be interested in our Transfer case skid plate.

For the 2022 Trucks the Transmission/Cat Plate will protect all the cats on the truck. We do have a transfer case plate in development that will fit the 2022 Tundra, but is not necessary if Cat protection is your only goal.

Just a FYI on to this, our plates will work with the TRD pro plates, but you will need to slightly bend the helper tab on the TRD pro plate to install it.

Here is a picture of the full skid package on our website, that we are hoping to get moving on again soon!

Anyone else have issues installing valhalla cat shield with pentagon security bolts? Could only install 3 of the bolts as the forth both (front driver's side) was way too long. Bolt was so long that it was hitting driveshaft. Even if I cut the bolt shorter the washer and lock nut was less than 1/4" to hitting bearings. Gonna try put a smaller nut. Anyone run into this?

    I assume you have the 2022 non-hybrid Valhalla’s Shield.

Last week, I installed the same (2022 non-hybrid 3/16” steel with pentagon security bolts), along with the Rock Hard bolt domes (negligible difference).

Actually, I had a shop install it for me. He said the install was straight forward. So, no issues observed.

    I have a 2022 Tundra SR5 V6 2WD.

I suggest you reach out to Tyler.

What about heat with these plates installed? Seems like they restrict airflow, especially at stop or low speed.

Unless your new allocation is a Pro chances are your skid plate is a piece of “formed felt”or “Ballistic Nylon” so you might be in the market for a real skid plate also

Question has been posed many times and no conclusive evidence I have seen that shows it been detrimental in those ways. Not saying anything definitive just saying I haven’t seen any.

A lot of trucks are running them for 100’s of thousands of miles and you can get them installed at the dealership also…so I guess most of us are going with the protection and not worrying otherwise due to not many (or any) reported issues

Yup I have non-hybrid. Reached out to Tyler and he just told me to cut bolts or attach thru holes for Trd skid plate. Not sure if the hybrid has a different plate but mine had a square hole that led to nowhere and there were no holes for the trd skid plate just 2 extra holes behind open slide gaps that butted up to cross member. Very disappointing considering how much I paid and how long I had to wait. It does work as is, but just has 3 bolts.

Does anyone with these cat shields live in colder weather? How do you clean road salts out? I spray the underside of my truck after every storm. Maryland puts this liquid poison on the roads if the the weatherman even thinks it will snow.

Just get an undercarriage spray when going through a car wash, but this is also why I choose aluminum and powder coat. At the end of the year you could spray the underside of the truck with a salt remover if you feel as well. I had my truck protected with Krown this year and they offer a de-salting service in the spring that I might do.

Are they removing the plates to spray? The plates look pretty restrictive to water flow. Noted on the salt remover, I haven't tried those specifically - just copious underside hosing.

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
I thought power coating holds up well. Try sandblasting something powder coated.

If the water you use to wash can't get above the plate, how much salt is really going to get up there?

I pulled my plates before Krown was applied to make sure they got it good. After talking with them at my appointment they said they should be able to apply with the plates on and get it covered adequately. I figured if I get the de-salting done in the spring I will leave the plates and let them see the truck with the plates and see if they feel they should be removed or not.

I don't think an undercarriage wash at a car wash will get 100% of the salt off simply because the salty water will travel as you drive but I think it will get most of it out, and what it doesn't that is why I have the truck protected with Krown.

I feel that it does as well. Sure, after enough hits it will likely chip but if it was prepped correctly the powder coat should be pretty strong.

When I pulled my shields off last month the bottom side looked great, no rock chips.

Perhaps, but hose waterflow is different than water spray from driving so I'm not sure.

The same argument could be made for vehicles without shields and the salty water getting into places that undercarriage washes may not reach anyway, I wouldn't over think it.

Ha you're asking me to fight my nature! I'm going to do a round of undercoating and then figure it out from there.

Different topic - RCI has options. Any thoughts on those?

    Sounds like a plan

As for RCI, I have their engine skid and I like it, haven't really looked in depth at their transmission/cat shield combo but I'd suspect they are quality items. As a plus, they are offering 15% off right now.
