    Hello all,

I'm going to be truck shopping here soon and have narrowed it down tundra, titan, 2.7 f150.

A lot of people seem to like their new tundras. I noticed there was a lot of teething issues IE turbo, random quality issues. Another concern was throttle delay or non-responsive.

You all think that these issues are ironed out for the 23 model?

Go to any forum for any of them and you are going to find people complaining about all of them in some form or fashion. Go drive them and pick the one you like best.

Thank you I think that's good advice overall but I'm kind of looking for if we know that some of these issues have been addressed etc

I always believe that the problems are baked in in year 1. Solutions found in years 2. Solutions baked in year 3. I've always said avoid year 1. Then I go and buy a 2021 F150 with V8. Its been fabulous. Best mpg 24.6 on a 500 mile drive, all interstate from Winchester Va to Boston. Keeping to just over the limits.

No, I don't think there are any changes from 2022 to 2023. There have been some updates, but no magic bullet so to speak. As soon as one person says it's the worst truck, another will be posting it's the best truck ever. Just the nature of forums.

This forum is only going to provide you anecdotal evidence of issues. You won't be able to understand failure rates (i.e.: out of 10,000 units built, X% will have this specific issue). People aren't rushing to this site to report that everything with their truck works perfectly. People are rushing to this site when they do have an issue to try and find others with a similar issue and what they did to resolve it. There also seems to be a lot of 1st/2nd gen owners who have zero experience with a 3rd gen, but they like to amplify any problems with 3rd gens for whatever reason. I've owned 2 3rd gen Tundras now and haven't had any problems with either.

You do understand that you are talking about fraction of percentages right? I understand everyone is concerned about issues and such, but you are buying a mass produced piece of machinery. Things are going to fail, things are going to get missed, things are going to go wrong for those select unfortunate few. And yes it definitely sucks for those and all I can hope is that Toyota does their part and help provide solutions/fixes for those customers. But the fact is there are tens of thousands of people out there (myself included) that have absolutely ZERO issues with there 2022 (1st year) Tundras.

People come to forums like this one to find solutions to their problems or to seek advice on how to deal with them, rarely do people come to the forums to talk about how amazing their vehicles are...we all know they are that is why we are part of a Toyota owners forum. That is probably why it seems like there are "so many" problems...the same will be true for any vehicle you ever buy regardless of what brand, make, or model.

looks like @Boats N TRDs and I were typing the same message simultaneously! LOL

Of the 3, Titan would be my last choice.

Compare features that are important to you and choose. I love my 22 Tundra Limited. Softex, the interior layout, the sunroof, roll down rear window, and the fact it’s a Toyota are what sold me. Sept 22 build, no issues.

Anything but the Titan. There's strong rumors that Nissan is killing the Titan in 2024/2025.

I was a very happy Titan owner. It’s lowest in sales volume for sure and doesn’t have a long history in trucks compared to the others but it didn’t stop them from making a pretty good and reliable truck, at least as far as I’m concerned. If you’re not worried about resale value, it’s a good truck. That said it’s the most return I’ve ever made on a trade-in vehicle, but that’s a one-off maybe.
All trucks are relatively good trucks out there now. Manufacturing is so much better than it used to be. Again, of course, there are going to be problems, no one is saying there aren’t.

I have owned Ram, Titan and now 21 Tundra. I have liked them all. The dealer experience is where I felt at the most over the service times.

Thanks for the feedback, I have time to research and drive. As well as let things play out a little bit naturally.

As for the Titan I don't know why so many people give it grief. They are great trucks I have owned one. The new ones are great too my brother owns a 19 and absolutely loves it. The only actual knock I see on the Titan is that it may be canceled in 24 or 25 that is unfortunate!

I haven't had a nissan truck but I have had a Nissan car and that was horrible. Trying to get that dealer to fix a bad cvt was a nightmare, to the point I was trading in that car for another and went underwater with it. I have never had a dealership experience as bad as with that Nissan. The quality of their cvts are bad and they use substandard parts. If you haven't had this happen consider yourself lucky. For me they are on my banned for life list.

Well that kind of thing I understand that would leave a pretty sour taste for anyone! My brother also had issues with a Nissan CVT as well. So I'm totally with you there any Nissan CVT product or actually in my opinion most cvts I avoid in general. But the Titan has proven to be a good truck. A little dated comparatively to the new offerings I'll admit.

The Titan engine is pretty proven and rock solid. Transmission? No clue. My Titan was a great truck. Didn’t do one thing great, but did everything well.

That's a good way to put it for sure. I had an 08 and it was just such a cool truck. Hard to explain but the driving Dynamics were just so on point! Earlier this year I drove a Titan XD and just thought it was really great. Felt solid, for and finish was good, plenty of power.

My Tundra has been perfect. I have owned a Ford truck since I started driving. Almost bought a new Platinum F150. Then drove the 22 Tundra and now own a 22 Limited CM 4x4. Zero problems in first 8500 miles. Noticeable upgrade in quality of build with Tundra compared to Ford. In the end I run the wheels off my vehicles and if Im going to put down 60 grand and put 200+ on it, I just feel the Tundra is a much safer bet. My other four cars are Toyotas, one that has 274000 on it. Enjoy your search and hope you find your perfect truck.

I had an 08 titan got a deal at auction for my father in law. Comparing to my 08 tundra there was no comparison in build quality. My tundra had twice the miles and still drove like new. The titan showed age. It had a host of problems that I fixed: PCV valve issues, smoke in exhaust which was fixed with valve cover replacement a big PIA job I did. And then the rear diff that luckily I did the rear vent mod but it’s prone to failure. Oh and Let’s not forget the lovely p420 code I got at 78k molars just out of warranty. This was so common to titans that Cajun b pipes built a business off of cause the titan headers fail on every one. cats are built to close and have to replace the whole system due to cracks in OEM manifold. Nissan is cheap and never changed DANA rear axle even in the new titans. They didn’t get better either the Cummins diesel trucks my buddys have that are newer have both had the transmissions go around 60k

I think each manufacturer has their issues, Toyota isn’t what it used to be, I run an auto repair facility and see first hand quality issues across the board, we currently have an 02 Land Cruiser in for service and repairs, even with 276k miles on it there are so many original parts on it and that really shows the quality that most of us know and expect from Toyota, let me tell you those days are over… we’ve had so many newer Lexus and Toyota vehicles (say 2014 and up) with leaking shocks, leaking water pumps, evap system leaks, leaks in the AC system… all with 50k miles or less… my wife’s 2022 Camry is currently in for warranty work for an issue with the hands free mic not working and they told me yesterday that they filed a case with Toyota because they don’t know what’s wrong yet… Ford is worse with their early mechanical defects, Nissan don’t get me started with their CVT crap…. my point is get what you like and expect to have issues that’s just what it is anymore

I currently have a 20, have owned a 08, 10 & 15. Never an issue with those trucks. I know the person that bought my 08 and it’s still going strong. Like it’s been said, Toyota of today is not what it was yesterday. I lease so I could care less about the issues but if I were to buy, I would wait it out. The stuff I have been seeing on here proves my point, no matter how small. Latest I saw was the side mirror camera falling off. To top it off Toyota doesn’t offer just that piece apparently. So after warranty if it happens again, which it will unless they fix the issue, you stuck buying a $1000 part to fix a $100 part. Not ever tundra owner is going to up on a forum or social media when something goes wrong or good. So no one knows the actual percentage of satisfied or unsatisfied owners. I hate that Toyota has dropped the ball on this so-called total redesign. But then again I hear the Big 3 are no better off.

Have a '22 with a little over 10K miles. I have none of these issues. It's been a really great truck. Fantastic for commuting, avg over 20 MPG and speed a lot. Tows incredibly well. Toyota fans get butthurt with every big (or little) change. Don't let it bother you. I was about to buy a used Sierra Denali (need to to road trip and commute so ride was big for me). When I got the chance to drive a Tundra with the feature set, ride, Toyota vs GM reliability and price, it was an easy choice. I paid less for a new truck that I love.

Honestly, all you have to do is visit the forums for Nissan Titans. Granted, forums in general are stuffed full of either people talking about how great their trucks are *OR* how terrible they ware.

But with that said, look at the issues (and the # of people complaining about said issues) about Tundras here....

...then go to, say, a Bronco forum, or a Titan forum, and do the same. You'll see the difference.

When the 100 series LC came out every 80 series owner went through the same argument. "Toyota lost its way! Less reliable grocery getters for soccer moms!" I loved my 80 series but my 100 series went 300K+ before frame rust ended it's value to repair.

You know a part is good when it’s lasted so long that it has been discontinued, and I’m talking 30+ years not like the domestics that discontinue their crap parts after 10 years

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I am definitely going to give the tundra a serious look. I Know that Toyota is not what they used to be but I think there still good vehicles. I've owned a couple of Toyotas and a couple of Lexus vehicles and they were all just amazing
