As a lifelong Ford guy, I had not much thought of getting a Toyota truck, although we do have a Prius. Anyway, at 88, my dad has reached that time where he should not be driving anymore, and he owned a 2020 white Platinum Tundra with only 7000 miles. So, as a precaution, and to take temptation away, I asked to buy his truck. He agreed. That was about four months ago, and I've been lurking here at Tundras.com ever since.

I can't say thank you enough, guys and gals! Your ideas, your upgrades and modifications, your documentation, your thoughtfulness, and just the wonderful and pleasant helpfulness and comradery here, including the vendors I’ve found here and done business with, have made my Tundra ownership journey a delight thus far. I look forward to many more awesome years to come...

    So far...

Did the Kilmat inside the doors help with road noise?
I too am a long time Ford guy who made the switch about 3 months ago. These things are like Leggos, snap them apart and rebuilt as desired. What I would have given to have one in my youth.

I've not noticed a huge difference in road noise. Compared to my F150, the Tundra is quieter anyway. What I have noticed is far less coloration, ring, if you will, in the music. Standing outside, door closed, and thumping its panel with my fingertips, a door I hadn't Kilmat-ed yet rung like a sheet metal chime. I perceive that sound coloring my tunes before the Kilmat and SoundShield treatment. Thump that same door after treatment, and, well, it goes "thud," it sounds solid, without any chime. That, and this could be just my perception, but if I've the volume cranked, bass blurring all three rear view mirrors, and step outside, close the door, and walk ten feet way, I can certainly hear the music, but it's not loud enough to turn any heads at a stoplight.

Good question! My last Ford, and still mine, was a 2003 F150 Lariat, Super Crew. You can see it in the background of my raised letter tailgate pic. Before that, I had a 4x4 Ranger and an Aerostar minivan. Since, I've thought if I get another full sized, it'll be another F150.

I remember, just before I purchased the Lariat, I had an opportunity to rent any truck that Hertz had on the lot, and fully paid for by the other guy's insurance. I started with a Chevy, and then a Dodge, and I did not like they way they drove; I can't put my finger on it, but I felt uncomfortable in traffic; I did smack the Dodge's passenger mirror on some other guy's mirror making a left on a busy, 8-lane, Houston street; that rattled me. So, back the Dodge went and I got a F150. Loved it! A month later I was at the local Ford dealer.

I like the way this Tundra drives. It feels solid; I'm totally comfortable in traffic, even though it has a longer and wider wheelbase than my Ford. Too, I think I can work on it. Compared with the Ford, there's lot's of space under the hood; I think I can get to most maintenance items. Where they put the alternator, if I need to change it out, could be a pain, though. Oil changes may be more challenging, too. Taking my Ford's dash apart, and I did it twice, was an all day affair for me. My Tundra? A couple of hours. At this point, I feel the Tundra is a well built truck that will last me years, and, I enjoy driving it. What I've done so far, to "make it mine" has been a blast too. That's special.
