My first winter week

Anything under 0 deg , this truck malfunctions on almost every level. Location canada
1- sensors ice over and malfunction colision sensors during snowfall
2- 4 wheel drive locked up causing the diff to error.
3- mirrors froze and stripped when starting
4- cold air leaks through the doors
5- sunroof iced over and caused leaks
6- auto lights cannot recognize cars and snow oncoming
7- no heated mirrors is bullshit
8- the hood builds exsevise snow because of the concave design and causes snow blowing in the eye line
9- door handles build more then normal ice due to there bulky size
10- updates for day 4 coming soon ,,,, this truck is dangerous in freezing conditions!

 

On my 2020 the sensors would ice over and the smart cruise would error or snow storm same thing. The owner manual i do believe warned of these issues.

 

Bummer. Sunroof is leaking due to being iced over, that's very odd.

Ohio weather hasn't caught up to you yet.

 

here are you located? I also find it odd that you have the sunroof and power folding mirrors I presume, but the mirrors are not heated. My SR5 has heated mirrors and rear window defroster.

 

I haven't dealt with any really cold weather yet. We got our first snow a few weeks ago and I went and played out in it.

Issue I had was that the wipers sit so low on the windshield that they will freeze up as they don't get heat from the defroster. That was really annoying. I'm coming from an 09 ram and they sat up higher and would stay warm enough that they didn't load up with ice.

 

I noticed the wiper issue as well.

 

My Limited CM has heating elements under the wipers in the glass. Not sure how well they work but they are activated when the rear window and outside mirror defogger/icer switch is pressed. They run for 15 minutes then shut off. P415 in the manual. We are a month or more from first snow in Northern Indiana so haven’t tested them yet. Do your SR/SR5 have the heating elements in the glass?

I discovered my 4Runner has this option as well, its a great feature (needs some time to get going but works).

For the front facing radar, yeah the 2018+ Tundras all have this issue in the snow where they ice over and then your dash lights up (which sounds like 2022+ is even more intense). Whereas my 2017 didn't do this, I was caught off guard when it started freaking out in the middle of a snow storm haha (and once frozen no way to defrost it manually/safely).

That looks just like my truck! Love the color. What tires are you running in the snow? I have some 275/70/18 Cooper Snow Claws being put on mine tomorrow. I had to drive over a pass in snow a couple of times over the weekend in what was forecast to be a big blizzard (but was really just some moderate snow - nothing too bad) and wasn't too confident in my factory Michelin tires but the truck did really well all things considered. I think it's going to be fantastic with the snow tires on. I haven't noticed any of the other issues the OP mentions or the windshield wiper issue you mention but I was just driving through snow conditions not in them 24/7.

 

They are 285/75-r18 Toyo AT3s. I had pretty good luck with them on my last truck and they seem to do pretty good in the snow for an AT tire. I'm betting your dedicated snow tires will do really well.

 

To each their own I guess. To me it'd be Fuck (yeah) Winter (let's) Shred, but then again my family lives for our time in the mountains in the snow.

 

Nice! Looks like a perfect fit! I wanted to go that big but couldn't find a dedicated snow tire in that size so settled for the smaller ones (still bigger than the stock tire). My kids compete in snow sports so we're constantly driving through nasty winter weather and the dedicated snow tires are really nice to have sometimes.

 

suggest you use rain-x on sensors for winter time, helps a lot for our ND winters

 

Cool, never head of that, which particular product? ND winters are pretty close to Manitoba!

 

My truck has the ceramic coating and I use a squirt or 2 of rain-x on the sensors. It works great
Also on an unrelated note that might help someone, my truck sits outside so I use a ceramic box-like space heater that’s plugged into an outside electrical outlet to heat up the inside of the truck & defrost the windows. Saves me on gas.

 

Cool. I had the same experience this morning on our first snowfall, except that I paid big bucks for the Toyota/DEFA interior heater with bluetooth app to schedule trigger it. A lot of money for a fancy $15 heater lol. There was 1/4 of ice on the windows, after 30 minutes with the heater, it just fell off with the ice scraper.

 

High-end brands like BMW and Mercedes have heated headlights, sensors in the front for this reason. Couldn't be that much money to add couple of defrost wires in the sensor window.

Thanks for that information. I wasn't aware of that until you referenced P415. Forecast is for 4-8 inches of snow here in northern Minnesota end of the week so i will probably be able to test it. Thanks again

started my truck this morning in about 2 degree weather,lots of snow,switched into 4 high with no issues,didnt notice any cold wind coming into the cabin,im dumb and forgot to put the mirrors in the do not move setting but they moved out just fine after unlocking the truck and hopping in,didnt really notice anything door handle wise that bothered me coming from my 2016 tundra that has been in snow alot,i dont leave my lights in auto so i never experienced issues with it recognizing the snow or traffic.

snow build up on hood seemed about the same as my 2016 tundra,just wiped it off with a winter brush,idk seems like not a big deal to me but im in montana so snow piles on hoods are a part of life hahaha.

the precollision sensors errored out on the highway as well as the left parking sensor,idk what this effects if it just makes it so you cant use cruise control or what exactly but i was fine with it i dont use cruise in snow on the highway personal prefrance and i sure dont want the truck to try and brake for me on the snowy highway so it was a nonissue for me,i suppose the little message could get annoying saying to clean the sensor but i was mainly paying attention to the road.

the heated mirrors and rear mirror were awesome, i have the digital rear view mirror for me was night and day difference so much better then a regular mirror at night in the dark i could see so much better and even though there was a ton of snow,due to that cameras location it was unaffected so that was very nice and allowed me to see more of the road

coming from a 2016 tundra sr5 to this 2022 tundra sr5 it has been much much better for me this winter the heated mirrors heated seats heated rear window(2016 didnt have a heated one lol but did have heated mirrors )are great all the cameras are super useful in the snow, the heater works wayyyy to good haha overall im super happy with the truck in the winter and the cold its been great so far.

one other thing i would like to add i tow alot, and in the snow on my 2016 it just seemed hard to see things clearly it was hard to make out the hitch etc,its super easy in this truck it is super clear and easy to see everything and make everything out in the camera,and the auto leveling suspension is super sweet and rides so much better then my 2016,this truck is an upgrade and better in every single way then my 2016 just my two cents

 

Just had our first wet snow fall in SW Ontario. I wasn’t surprised the front sensors were covered. I was however surprised with the relentless warnings.
I have the electronic dash (1794) which has the left side pop up with warnings. You can hit the ‘back arrow’ to clear. Only problem is the warning pops up after 5 seconds every time it is cleared. I also tried turning the system affected off with no luck. Does anyone have a fix? (I checked the manual quickly with no luck). I’m going to try the rainx type product and hope for the best. Thanks.

 

you need to go into settings in the cluster and turn off the PCS every time that warning happens.

 

And your parking sensors

 

My base SR5 has heated mirrors and heated windshield for deicing the wipers...did you use the defrost button?

 

Wow you must have a bad one, can’t say I’ve had any of those issues, I live north of 49th as well, so far so good after first snap of winter foot of snow and week of cold down to to -25.

 

I drove through some snow for the first time this weekend driving from Pitt to Chi. The radar cruise control, and collision alert etc. all deactivated during the snow.

 

My SR5 has the heated front windshield where the wipers rest.

turned on my heated mirrors and rear glass and after 10 minutes lifted the wipers up and sure enough the glass is warm

 

First wet snowfall today and wow, super annoying. The radar sensor warning pops up and obscures the digital speedo that I like. If you dismiss it the message comes back almost immediately. I stopped to clean off the sensor but it came back on within a few miles.
