Maintenance sheet

Hey Guys,
Not sure how you guys keep track of parts on your vehicles but I made and started using this for my trucks, boat, & bikes (Heck even the snow blower) so I have a record of what I did & when. Wish I had it sooner & used it sooner. But, better late than never.
I googled a few different maintenance trackers and put together what I felt I required.
Hope this upload works? Its an excel file. Figured I'd share it.

 

I gave up 5 years in and just keep a stack of receipts for everything I bought for the truck over the past 20 years. Enough to fill a couple shoeboxes.

That's cool! I'll have to check that out! I find receipts fade and than are unlegible after a short period of time.
I use an app called "fillup" to track fuel in all my vehicles, you can see the trend of prices, how much you drove, and it calculates your MPG. Handy if you care about such things.

 

I have a file with every receipt, including the cancelled purchase check and window sticker for my 2001 Tundra. I have a maintenance log like yours to document a service, sometimes referencing a receipt for the service, like a smog check. If I ever sell the truck, it will be a selling point I'm sure, but you really need a log to know when you did what, and a maintenance log is an easy way to see that.

 

I keep a manila folder for receipts.
Dealership gave me lifetime free CarFax with my purchase and I log all maintenance tasks in there, they make it easy.

I stopped balancing my checkbook in 2013. Haven’t looked back since.

 

What's a check book? Is that what you use to check off things when you're finished?

 

It’s that paper thing you used to write on to pay your rent back in the day if you recall. I see people use Venmo to pay their rent today. Bad choice, IMO.

@tyler-brown I have a very similar log I keep track with. I have no idea why I would want to keep a stack of receipts like others do. I keep a few recipes I felt were important but that's it. Plus, doing most work myself there is no receipt.

The maintenance log is the best method. No more guessing how many miles ago I changed the spark plugs.

 

So...you only drove 39 miles between June and October? Your truck will last forever at that rate!

 

Or not. You could end up having your heads look like this or this, even with routine oil maintenance at 1yr/3k-5k miles.

 

Not my daily driver. Used to be my daily. Never meant to be though.
It's my hunting/4x4/winter beater truck. But also ended up being the truck I use when I was in between dailys' for a little bit.
I installed a permanent batter maintainer so I can plug it when the truck sits for months. I also periodically start it up & let it run, move it around the yard. I just went hunting yesterday and filled it up. I got 70L/100km. (Which is like...3MPG). When i first filled it back up. So. Actually. Pretty accurate for these trucks

I have a hand written one that I use. Then ended up starting one for my kids and wife. They are not so good at notifying me though. What I really need to do is make one up for the house. Get so busy forget to change filters, yard maintenance and such.

 

For things that you want done by dates/time lines you can add notifications on your calendar on your phone, and say for your furnace filter, set it for every 6 months. Or 4 if you're in a dusty area/lots of pets in the house. I find that works well

 

Fire up a Google Docs word or spreadsheet and give family members access to modify it. That way they can add to it as well from their phones or wherever.

I used to keep a paper copy like OP in a file along with receipts, but I just like the convenience of being able to access it from any device. Also, I'm not 100% faithful to keeping it up-to-date. So with the paper copy, if I forgot to add something then remembered it a couple months later, things get out of order, and look sloppy -- which bugged me.

I was a proud parent when my daughter was at college and referred to the Google doc when she was determining when she needed to get her oil changed. I take my victories where I can get them!
