I've had an order for the 2022 hybrid since December of 2021. At this point the 2023's are being released and I opted to look at the new 2023's with the same (actually better) options except it is not a hybrid. They have an allocation coming in with everything I asked except the Hybrid option. I'm guessing it will be here before any hybrid becomes available and I'm sick of waiting. I'm going to look at it, but am pissed off and completely torn on how to proceed. The new 2023's are basically the 2022's (Limited, TRD 4x4 option with other options, black) has everything else I asked for, but I'm just torn, and not sure if I should pull the trigger on the new one or stay waiting. Not to mention the APR's are going up and up.

    Thoughts?

I put a deposit down on a 2022 hybrid and automatically got an allocation for a 2023. Since we can't place an actual order for these, the more specific/picky we are on trim, features, and color will make it take longer to get an allocation that lines up.

I've loosened up on what I want for options. Basically the must is: Limited, Hybrid, 4x4 with TRD option, in black > blue > red > white and would consider other colors, with other options? fine I'll consider, but no less. Not sure on the non-hybrid yet, but I'll at least look at it and take it for a spin.

Limited TRD hybrids are pretty rare around here, so even just that combination could make for a long wait time. Good luck!

Like I said, I put this order in December of 2021, so yeah, long wait is an understatement, that's why I'm considering going with the regular option.

Having driven both, either are OK. I did end up with the hybrid(and no regrets).

And just for your own information, it's not an "order", it's a deposit for an allocation that they may or may not ever get. Toyota's distribtors tell the dealerships what they're getting. Chances are, if your dealership hasn't gotten an allocation for what you want, they're not going to anytime soon.

I drove the non-hybrid and the power was underwhelming. I have an order for a hybrid crewcab 5.5 limited, windchill pearl, air suspension and tow mirrors. I was told that Spring 2023 is the target delivery. I hope I get it in April, not in June.

Does everyone advocating for the hybrid actually own one? I do, and it's extremely underwhelming. There's hardly any noticeable "power-boost" and zero fuel economy improvement. I'm getting 17.6 mpg real world, not sure what everyone in the fuel economy thread is doing to get 23 mpg combined, but they are living in an alternate universe imo. The other thing that really sucks if you use the back seating area for anything is how much space that hybrid battery pack takes up. I wish I could do it over again without the hybrid.

Thank you. This is helpful. The gas savings looks like none to maybe 2 mpg on average. I like the performance boost, but don't especially need it except to have it in extreme conditions. And I've heard it's underwhelming also.

I was hoping that exact same thing a year ago. Quite frankly, I'm about to go with a different company for a hybrid if that is how I need to go. Regardless of how you want to explain "allocation" to me. I paid my money almost a year ago and I'm still waiting. For a $60k+ vehicle? That's crap service, period. I wish I could escalate this somehow.

Thank you all for your input, still undecided. I spoke to the dealer again, to reinforce I'm undecided and to make sure I don't lose my spot on a hybrid that MIGHT but most likely will not come in. I don't think he gives 2 shits. So, I called another dealer too.

I own a hybrid and test drove a non-hybrid (once) prior to hybrid purchase. I don't regret the hybrid option at all, but definitely need to reinforce that mileage will not be better at all with the hybrid engine, at least with the Pro. The trucks that get ~21 MPG per some driver reports really seem to primarily be non-hybrid and non TRD Off-road models, some even with 2WD. It feels like the weight penalty of carrying the hybrid battery really off-sets any potential gain in efficiency for much of the style of driving I do. I like the silent engine shut-off in low speed driving, and in some circumstances that really boosts the mileage during certain kind of trips, but it always seems to fade back to ~18-18.5 MPG for full tank fill-ups.

In the end, I would still do the hybrid again. The low-end torque has a better "seat of the pants" feel, and I love the concept of the hybrid drivetrain working together during acceleration to reduce turbo lag and smooth out acceleration. From my perspective, a purchase of this magnitude required getting EXACTLY what I hoped it to be, and the hybrid drivetrain was mandatory to me for that reason.

I feel the same. I'm not waiting another year for a truck however. I'll go with a different brand if it comes down to it OR really like the 2023 non hybrid and go with it.

I'm a bit confused about the allocation thing with Toyota. My last 3 Rams were ordered from a dealership in LA and came in within 3-4 months. They were ordered specifically for me and Mark Dodge kept me up to date throughout the process. We agreed on the terms BEFORE I placed the order and the terms were honored on all 3 trucks. The BS with the ordering process and overpriced tundras may push me back to Ram. I just sold my 2021 Ram today expecting to order a Tundra but I may go with a different option. I hate the stealership games.

The process is complete BS. You have to get "allocated" your build to your dealer. So, basically your dealer puts in your order and hopes it matches what the manufactures make or allocate to the dealers, then, if it's "close" to what you want your dealer will go with it and offer it to you. I don't understand the whole process except it's BS and completely screws the consumer unless you're just lucky. It benefits no one except someone else's pockets (most likely Toyota or the dealer). I'm sure someone else can explain it better.

Well just to tie this thread up. I wound up going with the 1794 model. Hybrid 1794, Trd off-road option, Army Green. Loved the black on the army green look. Once it came available and I built it out to have a 2nd look, I was sold. It delivers 12/8, so just a few more weeks after waiting a year. I was calling all over and finding all these crazy mark ups. My local guy stayed with the MSRP and I'm good with that. All's well. . .

I agree. I had a deposit down Dec 2021, just took delivery last week. LOVE it!
