I thought those small diesels got great mileage? Like 30+ highway. If I was buying a new half ton I’d be considering the new 3.0 duramax personally.

Well mine is even tuned... but it still has had like 15 recalls. Still awaiting another one one to get resolved. That notice went out in June and still no parts! Not to mention Diesel up here is pushing 6.50 a gallon...
IF anyone has questions on the ecodiesel... they can ask me. modern diesels aren't worth it unless you rip off all the emissions nonsense, but then the EPA comes after you.
The ecodiesel motor itself is great if you take the smog stuff off of it.

Oh and it gets 24.5mpg combined. My best was 788 miles on a single 26 gallon tank on the previous GDE tune. those days are gone thanks to the EPA!!

Yes - the 2014 models blew up like crazy. Mine has been pretty decent minus the many recalls.

Dodge was half assing it across the board through those years. My dads coworker couldnt get his truck fixed that had a flowmaster cat back and a tonneau cover. Something about too low backpressure sent it into constant limp mode. My buddies '05ish ram burned through a trans, wheel bearings, suspension bushings(3 years, because spindle drop.), wear and tear from the sun (within a year)...

I was super close to buying a ecodiesel....joined one of the forums and lurked for a while before i started asking questions. That oil cooler issues made me pause and opted to go with a tundra for the reliability.
I remember i planned on getting that GDE tune as soon as i got it, i take it the epa spanked them hard like they did all the other tuners?

I went from a 2010 Tacoma to a 2015 jeep grand Cherokee with the vm motori diesel. not one of my better decisions. I suddenly needed a lot more room that the access cab tacoma could give me and I didn't think a full size truck would fit in my garage. I know I could have gotten a bigger Tacoma but I came across what I thought was a deal on an extremely clean low mileage and heavily optioned SUV and thought id try something new... it couldn't be that bad right?? . . . . right????!?!?!?.

Well, between buying the jeep and getting the FULL Mopar Max care warranty.... I drove that jeep for 7500 miles and it was in the shop 9 times, cost me almost 2k out of pocket for items the warranty didn't cover and the service guy, GM of the store, and regional rep all gave me "those pieces we took off to do the repairs just break when you take them off, no that's not our fault" answers for parts that were over $400 a piece. $220+ for license plate bulbs, smoke in the cabin during regen just pouring out of the vents. Don't get me started on those regens... then recall after recall, I think I got 6 in the mail in about a year and a half. I couldn't take it, I told myself I don't care if I have to park outside anymore I just couldn't deal with all the stress and issues.

So I bit the bullet and got into a Tundra. 0 issues. I even managed to squeeze it in the garage after cutting out a chunk of drywall (yes it is that close). I couldn't be happier, yes I lost options I had in the jeep but if you hover over my mod list you will see I spend money on fun stuff now, not the constant nagging repairs.

Yea so GDE shutdown for a while. Then they came back with the new tune that did a lot more regens than their previous tune. Plus I think it made less power too and got worse mileage. Its weird when the EPA gets involved then your truck gets less MPG!

Right about the time i stered away from the eco diesel, GDE was figuring out how to slap bigger turbo on it, but i think they had to pull the cab from the frame, did that ever happen?

Yeah EPA went rampant and any company that was modifying emissions got huge fines. Then they pulled some Big D moves and let people settle out for a huge reduction (still paying huge sums of money, but 6 figures not 7) thus starting momentum/precedence for every tuner to get shut down.

I really liked the idea of getting 30mpg and still being able to tow my trailer, i would have been able to get rid of my commuter car at that point....but the commuter pig lives on.

I actually had an exhaust flange leak on the turbo output. It was a HUGE job where they pulled the cab. And the worst part is the tech swapped the turbo for a new one and never had to!! it was just some high temp glue and new bolts that caused the leak. Mopar/Stellantis is no good. Their tech even told me himself to sell the truck. I've never had a person working for the dealer say something like that before.

I had a first gen Ecodiesel (Laramie Longhorn with Rambox) that I purchased in 2020. Of the 14 months that I owned it, it was literally in the shop for 3 months! Traded that thing in for my 2018 1794 and it has been a dream.
Coming from someone who ALWAYS tracks fuel economy at EVERY fill up - the Ecodiesel fuel cost was never consistent and rarely got over 18mpg (If I remember correctly, I only got over 20mpg like 3 times).

Holy hell. Glad i dodged that bullet. Pretty bad when your own techs say to to punt the truck. Hopefully you got good money for it.

    $6.50/gallon .......... sounds like Ontario!

it was good while it lasted, they did just announced no more ecodiesel for Ram for 2023MY, I've thought about getting new Sequoia to do that, I'm almost certain in 2wd mode and if you run 255/75r17 tires, you can hit high 20s if you keep it around 60-65mph.

On one drive up in New Hampshire, cruising at 50-55mph for about an hour nonstop I got 32mpg with the atv in the bed. Thats the best I ever got on a shortrun with the GDE tune. Gotta keep it in the highest gear you can. Plus I have the stock goodyears and no lift kit.
