What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I used a 14" flex 3/8" ratchet but I always buy new plugs/gaskets every time I do it since it's a 10mm hex. It wasn't a lot of effort to get it off and fortunately, my diff leak is all over the drain plug, so I think that'll come out easily.

 

So in that gasket kit, the front diff has 2 different size gaskets. A large copper one for the drain plug and a smaller gasket for the fill plug. Looking at my front diff yesterday, it looks like they are both 10mm hex plugs that are the same size. Is this because I have a V6 Manual Transmission or are your guys plugs the same? Kinda confused now and wondering if I need to get different gaskets for my set up. Thanks!

 

The drain plug uses the larger gasket. The Allen is the same size. But the plug is larger

 

So, basically, if buying the Lex drain plug, get the Lex drain gasket?

 

Ehh I don’t see why. The copper gasket from the tundra would work too

The gaskets for the IS350 (11-2013) and 1st gen Tundra front diffs were exactly the same part number. I researched it a few days ago at the Lexus dealer site.

 

point me in that direction. 3.19:1 !!! Gimme a good excuse to turn my truck into a 2v.

 

So I did this Saturday. Fuel Vector gunmetal. 17x9 -12. Falken Wildpeaks 275/70/17. It took 2 trips and several hours at America's Tire because, according to their info, they would rub the upper control arms. I took them home and tried one out and it was about 5/16" farther from the spindle. Also Tire Rack showed them as the correct fitment. I can't stop admiring them. Bilstein 6112/5160. Wheeler's Off-Road AAL.

 

Agreed, all those things could have happened. The wheel gap on driver side is off by inch compared to passenger side.

 

Welp. Just went back and realized the numbers they gave are the same for caster amd camber despite the adjusters obviously being moved (as seen in your pics).

Both rear adjusters are maxed outwards (which is also where I start) but if your an inch off on fender gap there could be more done (or wrong). Tough for me to say what over the internet though (body, frame, bushings, etc.).


That said your passenger front adjuster is max inwards but the drivers is about 2/3 to 3/4 adjusted outwards. Which would swing the drivers wheel further back towards the cab and away from the bumper.

 

Bought some upgraded Lexus plugs and gaskets for the gear oil change. Always convenient when the Lexus and Toyota dealerships are next to each other under the same ownership.

I did a comparison of the originals to the new Lexus replacement parts and they match for plug size and thread pitch. The only real difference is that the depth of these plugs are anywhere from 1/2-3/4 the size of the original plugs which shouldn't be an issue.

 

Are these new plugs for the front diff? Might be nice having those versus the 10mm hex version thats stock. I like your thinking!

 

Towed a Nissan on a Uhaul car dolly today with crackie. Had to put my old throttle position sensor back in on the side of the road.

That V8 just kept revving, and revving, and revving...

 

Yep, front diff only. Cost me $23 with tax at the Lexus dealership.

 

While its open did you check if the vent tube flows?

 

Independent throttle bodies are the answer. Actually, I don’t really know, but those things are awesome.

Note: The transfer case gaskets are really just washers and can probably be reused. They don’t appear to compress.

 

Looks good! As long as the backspacing is the same as previous wheels or less it shouldn't rub correct?
I just called DT yesterday to check what removal/install on new wheels would be and asked if I could request they not use an impact on my new wheels. The guy on the phone told me "they kinda have to after hand tightening the first few threads"? lol. I think I think some of this boils down to the person you get that day. Wheels and rubber look great again.

 

I get a slight rub on a rectangular plastic bump on the inside mounting area of the mudflap as the outside edge of the tire passes it while turning. I'm going to try using a heat gun on it to see if I can gain some clearance.

 

Yea I requested the guys at americas tire dont impact my lug nuts down either. I requested 83 ftlbs or so and he said they would hand torque them. I sat and watched and sure enough, they did!

 

I only take loose wheels to keep em from stabbing at the lugs like a drunk kid on prom night. The toyota dealer scuffed all the holes on grandpas truck and loosened 3 of his center caps and broke the 4th, which they didnt have in stock.

 

I'd reach out to the sender with photos and tell them that their packaging isn't acceptable with how much money you paid for their gear.

 

"But we put a Fragile sticker on it! It's the carrier's fault, they didn't read the sticker!!"

 

Ya, I think the blame game would go round and round. Plus, the parts have been mounted for over a month now and are doing great so far.

 

I found a can of CRC MAF cleaner in the garage while cleaning out the garage today, and I figure my MAF has probably never been cleaned before, so I went ahead and popped it out to clean it. Will be interesting to see if there's any noticeable idle, performance, mpg gains. I have no doubt it probably had a good 15 years of filth built up on it. Emptied about 1/3 can at it, waiting to warm up and dry out now so I can fire it up.

Holy crap the throttle is sensitive now! I was bitching to @912 a while back about how I dunno how the hell he can just burn rubber from a dead standstill, my truck is finally behaving a little more like that. Really surprised, never seen very much difference doing this on other vehicles. Maybe it'll tame back down after the engine re-calibrates. (hope not)

 

Or once it gets dirty again... lol

 

Mounted some adjustable clevices in the front today. Putting limit straps up there.
