Going to Panama City Beach for a week and didn't do my homework. Had intentions on looking into a private fishing charter and never did and it looks like its gonna rain all week too. Any suggestions on must or should do's while I'm there?
    Thanks

Back in the very early 90s when i was there on spring break that was the thing to do. I'm sure things have changed quite a bit, and the same girls better not be up there.

But seriously, phenomenal fishing! Surf casting and your snagging plenty if you're not gonna get on a boat

If you feel like making the drive ( about a 100 miles) the Naval Museum at NAS Pensacola is outstanding and best part is it's FREE .

I live in Panama City. Check out the facebook group "panama city fishing" and make a post inquiring about recommendations for a private charter. Easiest way to do it, plus you can get tips from locals if you want to fish by yourself one day. You don't wanna go on the big boats that take 50 ppl at a time.

I should have my boat back next weekend. If you are still here I can def put you on some redfish/trout if you buy the beer!

Will message ya some good local restaurants to try sometime tomorrow also.

Thanks! Very cool of you but will be back in the desert on Thursday. Had a boat set up today for a six hour trip and had a total of four of us. Unfortunately it got canceled due to the water being rough. The deck hand said it was around 7 to 8' and they were really close together. The guys at the cleaning center spoke highly of em and said they'd wear us out. I believe the deck hand due to how it was noticeably rougher along the beach.

I'm interested in hearing recommendations on food.

Like pbryant said, if you venture over the bridge and into Panama City there are a number of other place to try such as Hunts and Just the Cook.

Just the Cook is one of my favorites in town as you get free beer while your there!

On the beach here is a rundown of the little hole in the wall type places that are really good:

    BBQ: Moes Bbq
    Seafood: Dee's Hangout
    Burgers: Patches Bar and Grill
Sandwich: Fatty's Sandwich Shop, Wheelhouse Deli
    Mexican: Diego's Burrito Factory
    Pizza: Nicks Slice of Brooklyn
Other: Finns Island Style Grub, Muy Wayne O's (Tex-Mex), Dat Cajun Place

Can't go wrong with any of those places, they make up about 90% of where I eat lunch during the week and are all locally owned and operated with the exception of Moe's (but you wouldn't be able to tell that if you didn't ask).

Some of the more pricier options for dinner that are good:

    Captain Anderson's
    Firefly
    Saltwater Grill
    Grand Marlin

Pier Park is on the west end of the beach and it has a bunch to do as well. Its basically a giant shopping/dining center.

Thx for all of the info on restaurants! Unfortunately, my group doesn't have the same views as myself... holes in the walls are the best! Our last night we went to Sharkys which I was ok with but feel we missed out.

This morning was the highlight of the trip. We took an airboat ride with Boggy Bayou, with Captain Dave. Dave is a ritired wildlife officer, airboat trainer, and super cool dude! We went through the old shrimp farm in Panama City and spent some serious time on the water. Didn't see another soul in the three hours we were with him. He even let us drive the boat which is an art in its own! If you go to Panama City, don't miss Boggy Bayou! He also does fishing Charters but doesn't advertise... and significantly cheaper than others.

Sweet! Sounds like you guys were in west bay. Have fished those old shrimp farms plenty of times. Definitely a neat place to explore.

Yeah most of those restaurants on front beach road are tourist traps with the exception of the little oyster bars like Mike's and Dusty's, and ofc the places that I mentioned.

If you guys like to explore you could always go out to 30A. It's a newer area with more of a west-coast vibe. Bunch of little restaurants/shops. There's also a state park out there that has a bunch of biking/hiking trails.

Good advice here if you make it out to 30a at night. One of my favorite spots.

It sure is neat. I'd love to spend more time back in there! Dave said he walks around in there and drops a lure in front of the red fish. We saw quite a few rays in the real shallow areas and we spotted a pink bird and IIRC he called it a roseate spoonbill. He claimed it was nuts seeing it in that area and said it was about 250 miles or so out of its normal area and it was hanging with a bunch of herons. Saw a bald eagle and went back into the black water creek area and saw one small gator. There were a ton of gator slides but Dave said since it was warm, they were probably cooling off at the bottom. You could spend days back in there exploring.
