Hi all, I do most of my own routine and general maintenance on our vehicles at home rather than taking it to the dealer. If it's out of my scope of working through the problem, I'll go to a trusted local place. That being said, I would like to record my maintenance records as the dealership/service center would. What I have found on the Toyota site, after logging in under "owners/my-vehicle-user-vin" portion, does this report out onto the VIN and say carfax? Goal is to have good service records if I ever choose to sell or should I have a written log.

Seeing what you all might do, thanks!

Can't answer but a well written maintenance log with receipts isn't a bad thing.
What I do as well.

I keep a spreadsheet on my computer with date mileage and service performed.

    So stock.
I do this as well. Whenever I sell a vehicle I send it to the new owner. This is usually very much appreciated.

    Alot of them
When I bought a 2006 4Runner, the previous records showed up when I loaded the VIN. I'll have to look at it to see if any of those were "owner" inputs.

I understand what you are requesting and there is no official way of recording your own maintenance that can be shown as "truthful" to a dealer or future buyer. The most important thing is to keep receipts on oil and filter purchases that can correlate to the work being performed. When I do my transmission service I will have a receipt showing the two little 35178-30010 washers, the one 90301-15004 o-ring, and a bunch of WS ATF quarts being bought.

Ive found www.mycarfax.com has been pretty handy at keeping my maintenance records a click away. Most shops' service data also automatically loads to there as well.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Going to look into either mycarfax or amsoil website since I use their products. If all else fails, spreadsheets it is!
