O2 Sensors Cut

My check engine light came on and I took my truck in to find out why. Turns out someone attempted to steal my Catalytic Converter and cut my O2 sensors. Fortunately that’s as far as they got. I have no idea what I need to buy in order to replace them myself. Can anyone help me? There is one in front of the cat and 1 after. The dealership wants over $800 for parts and labor.

 

There are a total of 4 sensors. The diagram shows #10 and #11 for the sensors. This link is for a 2019 SR5 with the 5.7. It should get you started.

You need to oder cat protection plates as well. If they tried once, they will be back.

All long as they cut it close to the sensor it shouldn't be that hard to replace.
Seems to be a connector on it.

Odd that there are different part numbers for right and left..

Can you snap a photo or 3? If the leads are cut between the sensor and the connector then replacing the sensors would be the way to go, and pretty easy.


I’d go with Denso sensors as well, that’s what you get in a Toyota box anyway. Should be under $250 USD for 1 upstream AF sensor and 1 downstream O2 sensor.

 

So why do the sensors need replacement? If all they did was cut wires, why not solder them back together?

 

Aren't the signals too sensitive for soldering?

 

I would think that soldering would be OK with heat shrink tubing....not a crimp connector though

 

I just looked it up. Some sites state that solder increases resistance and will throw the readings off. Others state that the wire is stainless steel and wont solder correctly.

 

Why the hell would it be stainless steel if it's insulated? I'm not understanding something.
