Some lowlife cut both of my catalytic converters out of my 08 Tundra. I was wondering if it's possible to run the beast without them. Do I just splice in some pipe, do I need a retune ? What are the pros and cons? Appreciate any help

I should add that it's a 2008 5.7 liter with about 85000 miles on it.

    Some.
Pros- costs less than replacing, replacement can't be stolen again.
Cons- check engine light, limp mode, crap performance, criminal act to modify from factory (re-tune to falsify info being sent to computer to cover up the missing cats). The last one is really only an issue if you have inspections in your state/county/city.

Spend the $ on OE replacements (OE "equivalent" seem to be junk for many and still cause codes) and visit one if the multiple producers of cat shields to order some.

I would say to put in straight pipes, at least until this whole ring of cat thefts is over. Also, depends what state you are in for the emissions thing. It may not be worth it if you are in Ca but if you are in, say TX, then I would do the straight pipes for sure or just take this as an opportunity to go long tube setup!

Sorry to hear that. Cat theft ought to be punishable by removal of the appendages used to commit the crime. Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!

Cons to straight pipes is it’s stinky and sounds bad cel will be on but limp mode is news to me.

the stinky thing is real. I’d run cats If possible.

Over? There'll always be another idiot sh*tbag willing to steal from people. It's been too widely reported and is too lucrative to think this will ever be "over."

You may be right, but eventually the price of the metals will drop or there will be some legislation or SOMETHING. There was actually a time when people didnt worry about this and it wasnt a thing even though cats have been used for like 50 years.

50 years of societal decay perhaps? People suck now more than ever. I don't see that reversing, but I hope I'm wrong. Hoping for legislation is funny, though. Legislating to solve real problems isn't generally the goal of the nitwits in guberment.

Again, you arent wrong, but hopefully you arent entirely correct either. Societal decay I can get behind for sure. Maybe the whole green movement will lead to legislation on behalf of the agenda so people arent rolling around catless because they are expensive and keep getting stolen so they will do something (I admit, I may be in an excessively positive mood today, I am sure that will change once the rest of the factory comes in this morning and starts expecting me to work).

All EV by 2035 is what their answer to cat thefts is going to be. Already being beta tested. Sorry to have been a downer. You enjoy your positivity today! I left my energy drink at home, so I'm just bitter and jaded this morning. :angrygirl:

hahaha sometimes we all need a reality check. 15 years isnt that far away at least.......

At least I dont have to worry about it with my Valhalla's installed. Coupled with security bolts and bolt head protectors, aint nobody getting to my cats.

No way, despite California's dreamin' legislature. The cost to upgrade the whole power grid, plus the shortfalls of the batteries will make sure that goal is NOT met.

You mean something might be legislated that is unrealistic and causes a divide between haves and have nots? They'd never do that. We're all supposed to be united.

As a realist, there is SO MUCH that is in laws, rules, policies, etc. that I just laugh at. Unless it is affecting me directly, which then forces me to take other actions, which will remain nameless in this forum. :D

Did they get the pre-cats as well? It’s incredibly louder, however I am running the flowmaster super 10’s. I don’t recommend that muffler unless you just love being loud, obnoxious, and anyone in the backseat droned out on the highway. If you decide to install pipe just cut a hole for your O2 sensors go to the parts store and get some spark plug antifoulers to put on the sensors before installing them or that CEL will drive you crazy
