Hello all. I was suprised to find no threads directly comparing the 4.7 to the newer 4.6 and I’d be curious to hear what people think of the two. I am looking for one that I can take to very high miles as it will be my overlanding rig. The 4.7 seems to be a little more tried and true, but I can find the 4.6 with fewer miles for a little cheaper. Am I sacrificing reliability with the 4.6? Is the mpg much different at all? Thanks!

    Alot of them
If I recall, the 4.6 has more torque. The 4.6 has been around for a while, and I think 2019 was the last year for them. I had one in my 2013. Its a solid motor. It uses the same block as the 5.7. The 5.7 has a longer stroke. As far as the 4.6 compared to the 5.7, the gas mileage isn't much different between the two.

    4.7 uses a timing belt, 4.6 uses a chain

Both are great engines and will go the miles. I'd probably get the 5.7 though if you're putting a bunch of crap in the back and bigger tires on it.

4.6 is just a smaller 5.7l. Both are fine engines. 4.7l technically has more maintenance costs
