    2022 Tundra Platinum
    Hello All:

I have a 22 Tundra Platinum which I've had since late July and I love the truck. It came with just about all available options including the Advanced Package w/powered running boards. For a variety of reasons, the one thing I did not like on the truck is the powered running boards. As a result, I had the dealer remove them and replace them with the TRD cast aluminum static running boards, which I love.

The problem now is that I am getting an error message that says there is a power running board malfunction. The truck obviously thinks I still have the power running boards installed. The dealer is working on the issue but Toyota has told them the only way to fix this is to install a new ECM but then the bed step won't work (which I still want). I know they offer the bed step as a separate option though so there must be a way to make this work. Further, I can see the truck was setup to accept either powered boards or static boards because the attach points were there for both. It was a very simple matter to remove the original powered boards and install the new static boards and everything is now great, except for the error message. Any thoughts?

BTW, if I can get this straightened out I will likely sell the power boards. They worked fine and have only been used a few of months but like I said, I prefer the static boards.

Sounds like it does need to communicate with the step because its a platinum. can you plug in the module and leave the motors and step off? Idk what it looks like

Now, depend on how much you use the bed step ,, I did the same thing and I turned the side steps off from inside the cabin. The message is not coming on anymore.

You are correct and I missed that the option isn't powered...thank you for pointing that out!

Yep, the message doesn't come up on mine either if I turn the boards off in the cabin. However I'm hoping the dealer can figure out a work around that will still allow the bed step to operate on auto. We shall see...

I'm in Wisconsin. Not sure yet I'm selling them though. I will circle back once I get the issues settled.

Hi - were you able to find a solution to allowing the bed step to operate on auto with no error message? I'm doing the same thing.

Sorry, I just saw this after a year and a half...I did not find a solution so I just leave the powered running boards off and turn the switch on when I want the bed step lowered.

BTW, I am finally getting around to selling the original powered running boards from my truck. They were removed by the dealer about 3 months after delivery, so they are like brand new and have been sitting in a box in my garage attic. If anyone is interested, I am located in SE Wisconsin and am asking $1,000.

I also have the original Platinum grille which the dealer removed and replaced with a TRD grille. I am asking $400 for the Platinum grille which includes the camera hole and OEM camera bracket (but does not include the grille emblem).
