Props to you for buying individual quarts. I always just buy two of the 5 quart ones. I actually have about 5 years worth in the garage right now.

I found brand new (empty) stainless 55 gallon drums for about $900.

i hate it when i fall into an expensive rabbit hole. I'm supposed to be trying to talk myself into spending money on a couple of caged totes for water collection.

I bathed polo on the back of the tundra today. Guess that counts.

 

I blew one factory welded nut off the crossmember, but it's the one that holds the forward LCA bushing, so I can get a new nut in there. I think my coilovers were adjusted a tad too high and I was topping out, pulling on the shock tower and creating a forceful twist to the frame - ramming on my bolts. I have all plates off now to test and do some other work. I also took some preload off my coilovers. It's time to strap my front (and rear) end. In the front, that will protect the shocks, but also move the full droop load to the lower part of the frame and not the shock tower. I think I also found a location to run some big boy 1/2" bolts through the skids and frame. I believe I can get it rigid enough and relieve some flex stress to get me there. It's all quiet with everything off. I can't get to it yet because I need the plates off for now. I'll update my mangling when I get there.

 

Pretty annoying. Both of the nuts that hold the rear of my front skid are gone. One of the nuts for my trans skid crossmember is gone too so I had to drill through the top and run a longer bolt.

 

You couldn't do a heli-coil? I always forget about these handy things. I've used em at work.

4 little tack welds on those nuts is lame. I was under the 05 4R yesterday, and although that's not any better, I swear they built some stuff on that thing to accept more abuse than the Tundra.

 

nothing to heli coil to. Once the nut is gone, its just a hole in sheet metal

All of the nuts that are welded to the frame that I thread into are busted off. There's not really anything to repair.

For the front skid by the LCAs, I'm using U-nuts around a metal tab. Metal tab catches on the inside of the frame and I'm good to go.

In the end I'll probably have welded tabs and run 1/2 flange nuts and bolts all over the place. I'll have a convertible boxed front end, lol.

 

These are what I use for reinstalling panels. Like when I needed to, for example, cut the floor out of my truck to install a manual tranny, then bolt the floor back in.

They're called cage nuts. You use them in 19" server and audio racks. Basically, clip this on the back side of the panel, lay your panel on, and screw it down. They make these for round-hole installs and square hole installs.

Every time I price shop it's always been cheaper to just buy locally. Hell, last year Discount Tire even price matched Amazon. All I had to do was pull up their price on my phone.

Your situation might be different if there isn't a Discount Tire within a reasonable distance. TireRack.com is a good website for research and price info.

 

I’ve bought from simple tire myself. Most online retailers have a broader selection. DT is good for the mainstream stuff though. I still have them mount and balance. I don’t think they make much off the tire sales directly, probably small margins on that.

It’s nice to show up with exactly what you want ready to go. One big benefit of a pickup truck vs other vehicles.

 

That’s one thing I just can’t grasp, wheel fitment and offset. I’ve tried numerous times but it just hasn’t “clicked” yet. Luis always answered my questions.
