Toyota is going to be raising prices in the US, and who knows how many times they will raise them, my guess is they will continue to raise prices until sales numbers push back.

They lost 25% this year and they want it back!

Yeah well their offers are dropping quickly, the auction prices are dropping a percentage point or more a week in certain categories and have been for several weeks. A lot of car dealers are underwater on their inventory and just haven't accepted that fact quite yet. Carvana numbers should come out in a coupe of days and there is a good chance they will have to file bankruptcy.

 

My theory if your truck is paid for keep it. Let everyone else keep paying the mark up prices. Lol.

Something is only worth as much as a buyer is willing to spend. So as long as there are buyers willing to overspend…the high(er) prices will stay.

 

I don’t think I will be buying a new vehicle for a very long time. I don’t trust all the concessions automakers have had to make regarding suppliers and probably factory employees over the last couple of years. And I absolutely loathe the way vehicles are turning into smartphones on wheels. The connectivity, the monitoring, the move to subscription-based features—they can keep all of that.

When I need a new vehicle, I’ll be looking for the right pre-pandemic specimen.

 

Whats a matter you're not a fan of soy based wiring? Cheese based welds? "Composite" plastic recovery points? Eco friendly tires made out of mud and wet grass? Piles of lithium batteries that have no business being in extreme weather fluctuations?

I don’t know about anyone else but my 21 is paid for and not getting a new Pro when there marked up so much by the dealer and when your local dealer who you been dealing with for a long time and still won’t sell you a Pro for msrp because they know someone will pay the mark up. That was there answer to me. Not mad about it. It just won’t be me. I know my other dealer will give it to me for msrp. Don’t matter still not happening. We don’t even want to discuss some of these car payments I here at work what some are paying. WOW.

 

But why? Pretty much any gen 2.x Tundra is TRD PRO with only addition of Fox Pro suspension and sway bars. Oh, and a fancy aluminum skid plate. PRO does not even have a rear locker.

 

I expect to see discounts to MSRP show up as the interest rates and unemployment increase, loan defaults spike and cash becomes king. My dealer has quite a few new Tundras on the lot. They've called me a few times about a SR5 4x4 AC they've had for two months now. Just my guess.

 

Depends on what your into. And what your using it for.

 

I think they are talking about mid season increases on top of the annual increases.

 

Yes if things continue on, we should start to see better supply on the lots, incentives start to come back as well.

If you are looking to buy, hold off till next year and see what happens.

I know people that are upside down that are trading now vs waiting.

Still undecided on if I will stay the course with my current 22 or not. Will see what next year brings.

 

2023 Tundras have already gone up $2000 here in Canada. Interest rates on a new Tundra are 6% or higher.

Have a look at prices for used Tundras in my area. Keep in mind interest on used is always higher than on new. Tundras with 100,000kms+ are still selling for more than they were sold for new. This is why I bought a brand new 2022.

I really think about 2012-2016 was the sweet spot balance for functional and desirable tech in vehicles. Everything after that has your in-dash flat screen and thousands of dollars of tech stuff that to me doesn't add value to the vehicle. Its just flashy stuff that caters the "latest and greatest" crowd. I fear the day when my '12 flex and '14 tundra have to be replaced...

Yep, but that ship is about to sail as interest rates go up. Loans will become unserviceable for most consumers who barely live within their means.

Auto sales are going to take a huge hit in the next 12 months, along with other big ticket items.

At which point dealers and manufacturers can decide if they’re in the business of selling cars and trucks or collecting them.

A lot of dealers will go tits up after screwing customers for two years, people remember that shit and in a recession with dealers about to be hungry should take their business elsewhere.

The "Big Star" dealer network here in Houston has competition yet still is pushing the "market adjustment" line item on the sales tag. Earlier this year I looked at them for an F150 and they wanted 73k for crew cab XLT 4x4...sick. And yet, some poor schmuck who needed a truck likely had to fork that over for a slightly better than basic truck.

 

Lolz. You're 20-30 years too late. This new shit might as well be called toyundai.

 

Price is what you pay, value is what you get. I don't disagree with you and I'd do the same thing too. I'm just not going to pay above MSRP. I'll buy another beater like I did in the past to tide me over until I can get a good deal. Years ago - bought a Camry for 2,600 bucks and sold 15 months and 30k miles later for 3,000. I was also rear ended (no damage, only a cracked taillight that wasn't replaced) in that time period so I was able to get another 700 bucks.
