Check the build link in my signature.
I grew up in N Idaho - never saw a slab on grade house built. Seemed like the frost levels would prevent doing slab on grade

Styrofoam insulation blows (7 hours today). New R10 board and old blue R10 board that was already here pieced together. Got some reflective bubble wrap insulation on the way to put overtop of the boards. Doing top and side seals this week. R30 going up next weekend on the cathedral ceiling and then foam sealing everything up. Finally have a warm/cool detached.

I finally got on the ladder to see what was happening with one of our 2nd story windows. It's a shaded side of the house that's pretty much always wet (@Fotnot 's favorite side) and the whole window is just rotting. Hell, it looks like the whole frame is too. It's about 20 feet up so I won't be attempting to replace this on my own. I sprayed some foam in the hole and caulked the hell out of it to hopefully buy a little time. No after pic because it's nothing impressive.

Glad you caught it before it got out of hand. Hopefully the damage isn't too bad once they get inside and poke around

My garage is so shotty/old that I live by spray foam. Too big of a job to fix a gap or a warped beam? Fill that sucker with foam.

That's funny because I was originally gonna go the epoxy route until I saw the whole window was rotting. I saw a can of spray foam and thought "why not?"

It's pretty bad but I think a previous owner cheaped out on the window. Seemed like the frame was hollow? I'll get some quotes and see what kind of window we can get to replace it. Preferably something that can handle the near constant moisture from being on that wall.

A lot of good window framing and flashing these days are inexpensive and plastic/metal combos that'll last you nicely. I think I dropped around $200 to have someone do a good 24x48 window install with new metal flashing.

Personally I'd have hit that with a whole can of MinWax Wood Filler, and if you find the foam isn't cutting it, that might be my next suggestion for you. That stuff is plain magic. Never used it before this summer, had 4 inches of rotting wood trim around a north-face garage side door, packed it all in there and shaped it with a small stir stick, and it hardened in ~15 minutes. Trimmed it with a box cutter to the same shape of the wood, and painted it, done and done under a half hour. If it were somewhere more visible, I'd have sanded it down to be perfectly concealed, but my garbage cans sit there in front of it too, and frankly, I'm lazy.

Deer Tboned me on a backroad back in June. Cracked the lower crankcase unfortunately so I'll need to tig it back together for the track. Picked up a plate and 7 pins in my right wrist. All good tho!

Rot is the worst...I redid (read....complete rebuild from the roof rafters down) the back room on my house 18 years ago, double primed everything sealed edges where siding and trim meet, and used good paint, and now I am replacing trim again.

That’s pretty much what I initially planned to do but once I got up there, I could see the whole window is rotting. It’s one of those “sealed” windows too and the seal popped at some point so it looks like glazed glass. I’m just going to replace the damn thing. I didn’t want to waste my money on loading it up with wood filler if I’m just going to have it replaced.

I actually bought a LiquidWood & WoodEpox kit from Abatron that I was going to use. It looks pretty legit. Thanks for the advice though, I do appreciate it.

Any tips for hanging 24x48 R30 insulation batts in a cathedral ceiling? First time doing this ever and it took my 30 min to hang 3....I have 108 to do lol. Thinking of picking up a cordless stapler.

Edit: Reason it's taking so long is I'm 20 ft up balancing across the rafters (no plywood to walk on with the lowest clearance being about 6 inches lol....I think it's just going to be slow going.

Forward looking camera, Stub Antenna, 3M clearshield. A few other non lifted items.
This might work for you, they use a poly string and small staples to hold the batting in place. This is my crawl space area.

That's a good idea. My only other option was 2 inch common board planks screwed in to support the center of the batts. They're r30 so 10" (heavy). Afraid of sagging over time and I have 0 intention of drywalling
