Any problems with the lift? I just can’t decide on the westcott front and CB rear or all CB. I have the same AG truck

 

Currently all CB Pro Kit with no issue, ICON UCA’s with a BMC. But I’ll be switching to Westcott for the fronts when I move up to 37”s.

 

Oh, did you have to do BMC and UCA for 35s?

 

yea. The Billet UCA’s were probably overkill but i got a good deal on a new set and it helps with alignment.

 

Gotcha, I’m needing tires and wanted to bump up to 35s. 37s will be sick!

 

I have a question I’d like to get explained. I’m looking at the Westcott TRD Pro kit. I understand how the preload lifts the front but I am not clear on how the bump stop spacers, or whatever they are called, lifts the rear. I’ve tried with no luck to find a install video online that shows what’s it’s doing to the rear. My other question is how hard is this to install your self if you are mechanical inclined and have all the proper tools. I mostly work on heavy equipment and machinery not so much on vehicles. From what I’ve seen it looks pretty simple but I’d like to hear from someone that has actually installed it themselves.

one other thing. Does Westcott include torque spec for everything.

 

With the Westcott the rear is lifted with blocks between the axle and leaf springs. I installed the Westcott front and CB shackles in the rear. I’m no mechanic but I’m pretty mechanically inclined and like to do my own projects. Install was straight forward and pretty easy with the right tools.

 

Thanks for the info. Yeah I kinda figured out that it was a block when I looked over the pieces that came with kit. I watched there video of them installing it on a 4Runner and the bump stop was totally different on it. That’s what made me wonder. Did you put the +3 shackle on yours? Is there really any issue with the shackle and tail pipes? I keep seeing that they will cause the leaf spring to hit the tail pipes if they are fully extended.

 

Where did you purchase the ABs/brake line relocation kit from? Is it just different brackets to move the lines?

 

I have the +2 shackles. (I bought the +3 but haven’t installed them). Honestly, my truck has pretty much been a pavement princess so I haven’t had any issues with the rear end articulating where it would cause the shackles to rub the exhaust. Even so, I don’t think there would be any problem but maybe someone who wheels a lot could chime in to be sure.

 

How much offset does the coach builder carrier bearing drop kit provide. I’d like to know the height of the bushing and diameter if anyone knows. Looking at pictures of them it looks to be around 3/4 of a inch height. I have a personal machine shop and that part is just too easy to make for me to buy some. Would only take a few minutes on the lathe and I already have some aluminum stock about that size. I know you don’t have to use them for the Westcott lift but if I made some that lowered the carrier bearing about a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch I don’t see how it would hurt anything. Is there anything that is recommended to install on the front end after adding a Westcott lift? Just don’t want to add any extra wear to any components.

 

I can get you the measurements your looking for tomorrow. As far as anything else for the front end, just a good alignment and your good to go.

does the coachbuilder look more impressive in person than pics? I can barely tell it's lifted in pics. For almost a grand, I'd want it to look like I spent the money. Might have to suck it up and spend the money on a readylift+4 or something that is more impressive.

 

One thing I haven’t considered and I look to the forums for help:

I reached out to one of the preferred Westcott wholesalers in my area and they suggested since my truck already has 50k miles (48k to be exact) that I would have to be replacing my shocks and struts around 75k anyway and I should upgrade to icon shocks and knock it out now. Obviously that’s a lot more expensive but since when do shocks and struts start to go around 75k? This is new to me. I’ve had 3 trucks all with over 150k miles and never replaced any shocks or struts. Was this an up-sell job?? Normally would think so but I know nothing about lifts and leveling kits and trying to educate myself now.

It sounds like a sales pitch. My mechanic told me long time ago as long as it seems to ride and handle good no reason to change them. This goes back to years and years ago when I had my brand new 1998 Tacoma off road. There was over 100,000 miles on the truck before I added new bilsteins to the truck. I will be doing the same to my 21 Pro if I have it long enough. I still did not add my westcott lift yet. My Pro has 9700 miles on it.

 

thanks. Yeah I drive a lot and I understand most people drive less than 20k miles per year but are people having to buy new lifts/levels every 100k or so? That’s what surprised me. You can reuse a leveling kit on new replacement shocks?

 

I don’t see why not. Maybe depending how your truck is used. Mine is all highway and town. I don’t off road so I see our shocks lasting a very long time.

 

Finally found someone that gives me confidence they know how to install westcott kits locally.
So just to make sure I’m correct, the kit only raises our TRD Pros an additional 1.5”? Is that enough to tell a difference? I mean, it doesn’t sound like a lot. I’m not looking for a suspension lift. Just making sure once I spend the money, I can tell something was done. Thanks for any feedback.

the plan is the westcott in front. Shackles +2 in back. 1.5” wheel spacers and 35” wild peaks. Sound decent?

 

I have mine scheduled for the end of the month with the full westcott lift. Staying with 285’s for now.

I agree FishN43. My schedule with work messing me up with this getting done. But it’s in stone now getting done last week of December when I’m off. Since also my headunit got screwed up also that’s getting done the same week. So 2 mods the same week. I will have to keep my fingers crossed this works out. Lol.

 

Yes- about 1.5” in the front and the +2 shackles will yield about 1.25”ish. Its not like crazy jacked up, but very noticeable and worth it in my opinion. The bigger tires will also add height and make it way more proportional looking. I’m 6’3” and have to use the steps to get in and out where I didn’t necessarily have to when it was stock.

Thanks I know you are. I have thick skin. Lol. I was planning on adding SCS ray 10 wheels but sold them before I even mounted them. Waiting patiently for the F5’s which I had on my 20 AG 4runner Pro. Don’t know how long I can wait. Looking at other wheels for now. I plan on mounting my 285’s instead of selling them. And then maybe put 295’s. That’s still up in the air. For now at least get the lift done.
