Has anyone previously owned another truck, switched to the Tundra and had regrets? Payload, towing capabilities, ride comfort, fuel efficiency etc. I'm thinking specifically of some friends who have the 150 with the ecoboost and crush it in fuel efficiency compared to me. Tundra is my first truck and am coming from the opposite end of the environmental spectrum with a prius so admittedly there are some fuel economy regrets. But I WFH and fill up once a month so its not really a big deal, but still something that is a little irritating.

id rather pay at the pump than have all the downtime and repairs with one of the big 3. Don't get me wrong, I like the fords and the Chevy's, dodge has a nice interior. up until the 2022 they all had more tech. but the general reliability is most important to me and I think 95% of the people on the forum will say the same thing.

If you have large towing requirements, a Tundra probably won't work well for you.
For everything else ... can't lose with a Tundra.

No real towing requirements outside of renting a camper occasionally. Carry mulch and projects from lowes etc. It only really hauls the family.
I love the truck and have been super happy with it. Just going from 50 to 13 has been an....adjustment.

That depends on the camper. Stay small and use a WDH and you're fine. Try to tow over 25 feet with tons of slide outs and you'll blow your payload. Don't even look at your tow rating. You'll never tow that much without going over payload.

This will be my first tow with the Tundra this Thanksgiving. Have a short E-Pro, should be fine with a regular hitch?

Don't know what an e-pro is. The way the weight of each trailer sits can vary. Hook it up and see how it sits on the truck.

No regrets, really. I drove GM's for years and had great success with Envoy's and two Yukons before switching to a 2021 Sierra... unfortunately the Sierra had such engine problems that I couldn't take it anymore, sold it back to the dealer who was working on it halfway through my lease.

I was stuck without a vehicle for about a week and was targeting used Tundra, new Tundra, and used Ram. I ended up finding a new Tundra that worked for me and ended up buying it from a dealer about three hours away, not to mention used prices were so high you may as well buy new.

My honest feedback on the Tundra... I think the stock tires suck for a truck and the interior cabin space is lacking especially in the backseat. The Toyota safety features can be annoying and it just feels like a much lighter vehicle (even though I know it's not), I miss the heavy feel of the Sierra while driving and the familiarity of a GM interior.

That said, I think the Tundra trailers at least as good, if not better than my Sierra, has plenty of power for anyone worried about a V6, and is a beautifully appointed truck both inside and out. Smooth ride, nice suspension, and pretty good on gas though my new tires made that nosedive quite a bit. I'm about 3400 miles in, no issues so far, and am enjoying it quite a bit. The sticker being 10k less than the Sierra is also a major selling point (I got a fully loaded SR5).

Overall I'd recommend Tundra to anyone looking for a new truck and have no regrets with the purchase.

You mentioned you WFH so that is similar to my situation. Did you trade in or sell the Prius?

I have a Tundra and my wife has a Mazda CX-5 which is surprisingly not as good on gas as you'd think but is still much better than the Tundra. The ideal setup for our family would to keep the Tundra for "truck reasons" and have a hybrid or EV in the future for daily use, and to offset fuel cost. I hate driving my Tundra in cities anyways.

May not work for most, but if her car ever kicks the bucket that is our plan.

Only unloaded. If you guys actually used your trucks for truck things, they'd get similar fuel economy. If you don't use your trucks for truck things, sell them and buy sedans.

The latest repair bill on my 2017 Silverado work truck (not including transmission, third one at 109k miles)
2F417C32-E193-4947-872A-C8936653322D.jpg My employer has now paid more in repair bills than the truck cost originally.
My buddy’s F150 is pushing $15k in repairs in the last 7 years. The list goes on.

Ive had zero issues. So no, I dont regret my Tundra.

I traded the prius, '13 with 117k miles, they gave me 10.5k which is a few hundred bucks shy of what I bought it for ~2018. Ideally we would have kept the P and traded my wife's flex but it just didn't make sense with what they were offering me on the trade.

I do truck stuff when I can though its rare living in the suburbs.

FlyingWolfe - Thats pretty crappy all around. The only thing that had me worried in the research I did was the cam tower seal failing. Then again, thats not a 8k repair bill so theres that.

I had the Jetta with the diesel before the prius. VW was kind enough to buy it back and then some. Came out ahead on that whole deal, but I do miss that car.

I’ve got a hybrid Camry that balances out my Tundra. Also keeps the miles low on both. Both are good at what they do, and I won’t be worrying about unplanned maintenance or unexpected repairs anytime soon. I have owned two different Priuses, wife drives a hybrid Sienna. My current Tundra is my 3rd.

I really like the innovations of other car brands, I think the Ford Maverick and Ram TRX are amazing and cool in their own ways. My neighbor bought a Hyundai Santa Cruz and it’s surprisingly fun. However, I think not making trips to the service center or local mechanic is even more amazing and cooler.

Flashing CEL and loss of RPM followed by engine meltdown was the long and short. They rummaged around for a week apparently troubleshooting and replacing crap. Im sure they were generous to themselves with labor.
Id been telling them for a year about the tranny slipping, we’re forced to bring them in every 5k for service (fleet vehicles). They finally checked it and ‘oh yeah, theres chunks of metal’

“Crush it” in fuel efficiency is a bit strong. Think of the exact same driver with the exact same mods on both trucks. For that matter, go look at Fuelly. The 3.5L EcoBoosts do not “crush” the Tundra in fuel economy IMO. They’re getting 3-4 mpg better than the 5.7L on average. The BabyMax diesel does crush the Tundra, along with every other gas engine half-ton.

I’ll gladly get Tundra mpg to have a truck that is ready to go every time I need it, that doesn’t ever hassle me, that doesn’t eat up my time chasing down issues.

I’d only jump if I needed an HD rig. I’m not in construction or farming, and I don’t drag a 30ft glamper around, so I don’t need an HD rig.

The original Poster has the exact same question that I have. This thread has me convinced. My only hesitation is cab configuration. I am on my third " 3/4 Ton" 4 x4 regular cab truck since 1987. The current one is actually an F-350. I am a regular cab kind of guy. Obviously these options are market driven, and many people use these trucks daily, and have families. I just prefer a regular cab, eight foot bed. I don't need a school bus. Regular cab is apparently not an option. I guess an eight foot bed is possible, but I expect that would be a wait, particularly in the current environment. Also, it would be a very long, and less attractive( to me) truck. I guess I would go with the short cab, 6.5 foot bed. Has anybody removed the rear seat and put some type of tool box/organizer in that space?
    Thank You.

The Passt was a buy back from VW, it then went to Michigan and sat for a few years. Dealers were offered to buy some back and sell. Wifes car had 20,000 miles and we picked it up in 2020 for 14,000 bucks. SEL Premium, beautiful car !
