Coming from years of dealership oil changes, I recently decided to do my oil changes myself. I have done oil changes on other trucks but I want to ask what brand do you guys recommend? I have a 2012 4.0 V6 1GR-FE. I believe it requires 0w-20, 5w-20 if the prior is not available. Also do I use an OEM filter?

I just buy the cheap synthetic oil at walmart and change it every 5k. 0w20 or 5w20 whatever is available it's all API rated. Then anything but fram for an oil filter. If im already making an order on rockauto for something else ill get a half dozen toyota filters too.

Oh snap! It's the picture I was promised!!!

Much improved without the bull bar. I really like the black grille surround with chrome bumper.. My headlights are kinda smoked, so not apples to apples.

Anyway. The truck is definitely looking very nice.

Sold the bull bar 4 months ago to a nice dude from Kentucky. He has not picked it up yet lol. I had smoked headlights but switched out to clears

The totally legal vanity plate, at least I think it could be legal. Probably not but nobody has told me otherwise knock on wood.

...So long as that plate is actually registered to the truck, should be all gravy.

    Does your rear plate match?

Cali never messed with me over my lack of front plate, but I could definitely see them being unkind to anyone with mismatched plates.

I was accused of grand theft auto (at the scene) and vehicle impounded for expired registration in SD County. The registration had in fact been paid, but they had trouble getting my stickers to me ("lost in the mail"). All sorted in court, but I still had to pay over $400 to get my car back. This was like 15 years ago and I can imagine the system has improved.

I don't have the same engine as you but I only use Mobil 1 synthetic and the TRD oil filters, and change about every 6K miles. I've only done 2 changes on mine since I've owned and noticed both times that the oil rushes out in a fanned-out like fashion for some odd ball reason. I have a typical oil catch pan/container where the oil hits the top of this elongated container and runs down into a hole into the container that holds the oil. With the fanned-out deal, the oil hits the top of the container and sprays in all directions, and always sprays up on the right wheel, brake caliper, and tire. What a pain in the ass ...maybe for your first oil change, don't use the catch container/pan type I use but rather a bucket that has some depth to it so you don't get that splashing affect. It wasn't until I did my second change that I remembered this happening the first time and I told myself then I was going to get a different type of container. I then forgot about it and made the same mistake the second oil change.
